Why Cricket Is Such A Beautiful Game: British Legend Botham Tears Up When South African Bavuma Scores Maiden Century.
I caught it, i.e., Beefy Botham, all dressed up, wiping tears from his eyes, when 25-year old, ‘little’ (he is 5′ 6″, if that) Temba Bavuma, in his 7th Test Match, scored his maiden Test century. It was quite the innings — even after the superlative Master Class 201 by (vastly recovered) South African captain Hashim Amla and three impressive knocks by AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis & Chris Morris (in his 1st Test). It brought tears to my eyes, though I wasn’t that familiar with Bavuma until this gusty, match-saving innings.
But to see Ian, the Godfather of British cricket, tearing up when a South African steals the Test away from England is what makes cricket SO SPECIAL, SO UNIQUE and SO BEAUTIFUL.
Thank YOU, Ian. I have always liked YOU, through thick and thin. This spontaneous gesture elevates your glorious status, as a GIANT among men, even further.
This was SPECIAL.
Until I just read it I did NOT realize that Bavuma’s hundred was the 1st Test Century by a Black South African. That is special. Nelson would have been so proud. Wonder what Barry Richard’s thought.
