I have been hankering for a ‘powerful’ compact to augment my Panasonic Lumix FZ1000. [Check out my FZ1000 blog for new pictures.] I want a small camera that I will carry around as much as possible — possibly even on my run.

That is why I was considering the new, quite impressive Canon G5 X.

But since I bought, last August, a refurbished Canon Rebel T3i, from Canon, they send me quite a few offers a week hoping to tempt me into buying another Canon from them. I got such an e-mail today. I knew that there would be no discounts on the G5 X. But I was curious what they had. It was a 3-page e-mail. Then I saw this $269 offer on page 3.

Of course it is NOT perfect. But neither was the FZ1000. All cameras are a compromise. But for $269 I can AFFORD to compromise quite a bit. What swung the deal is that it has a BIG sensor, even slightly bigger than 1″. So for $269 I am willing to give it a try. The cheapest I can find on Amazon is $358 — for used. Refurbished from Canon, I think, is a better deal.

I will keep you posted. So now I will have the challenge of trying to master two new cameras in tandem.

With the Lumix FZ1000 last night — at first Halloween party of 2015. See yesterday’s post.
