Kind of, actually ‘VERY’, embarrassing that I did NOT know this — or try to find out about it sooner. Yes, my mea culpa and to MY cost. All I can say, in my defense, is that I expected ‘it’ — i.e., the SCHEDULE a post option — to be more obvious. To be fair to WordPress, ONCE I was told where it was, it is pretty OBVIOUS.

Not sure why I never Googled it! I guess I kind of assumed, wrongly of course, that I knew most of WP. Wrong.

This is GREAT. So many times I need to do posts AFTER a specific time — especially on the Papam blog when I am dealing with cardinals turning 80, as will be the case tomorrow. Now I can schedule my post to get automatically posted at midnight.

So, the bottom line. WordPress.com does have a good and powerful ‘SCHEDULE’ post feature. Thank YOU, WordPress.com.

U.S. Police Really Should Be Better Trained To Handle Diplomatic Immunity Claims — In Light Beverly Hills Qatari Clown.

OK. I understand and appreciate that the police could NOT arrest him because they did not see him race either one of the cars. Got that.

But, it says that he, this clown, told them that he had Diplomatic Immunity. And here is MY POINT.

They, i.e., the police, should have been able to verify that, within minutes, with the State Office. There has to be a SYSTEM. We need such a verification system.

I speak of one who did have bona fide Diplomatic Immunity for 3 years (maybe 6) — and even after that, with appropriate authorization, drove ‘CD — plated’, i.e., ‘Corp Diplomatic’, cars in D.C. and Paris (since my adoptive parents were real Diplomats).

I even remember the first time I heard the phrase — ‘diplomatic immunity’. It was in the early 1960s in Ceylon. The Burmese Ambassador to Ceylon chased his wife, down the road, in central Colombo, and shot her dead, in public. Then he, quite rightly (as was his due), claimed diplomatic immunity and just walked back to his residence. He left Colombo a few days later. The police could not touch him. My parents, who even then were staples of the diplomatic scene, knew the Ambassador and his gunned down wife. There was much consternation in our household.

Many decades later, in August 1992, the phrase again cropped up this time in ‘our’ household. My adoptive mother, 62, with various illnesses (though none truly life threatening), died, unexpectedly, in her sleep, in Paris. The French authorities wanted an autopsy performed. My adoptive father said there was no need for one — and reminded them that ‘they’ had immunity, i.e., French laws did not apply to them. I did NOT have a say, and all this happened even before I knew of the death — because I was in the U.S. (and had my phone ‘off-the-hook’ because I had just got back from a gruelling trip to Israel and did not want my Israeli colleagues calling me, as they were wont to do, at 6 am). I really would have liked to see the results of an autopsy.

So, I speak with someone who knows a bit about D.I. — Diplomatic Immunity.

I have a feeling he did NOT have Diplomatic Immunity. Just because you are a royal does not give you immunity. Immunity goes with an official ‘post’ — e.g., an Ambassador. Yes, then his family get it — but I am sure it only applies to children who are minors. Immunity is granted, in each country, by the State Department of THAT country and they sure have a list.

IF this idiot did NOT have immunity he should have been arrested for making a FALSE claim to the police. That is my point.

Police in Paris, from my experience, were very savvy about D.I.

Police in D.C., from my experience, were not as conversant BUT knew some of the basics.

Police in Alton, New Hampshire, where I now live probably would never have heard of it. And that is WHY all police should be given at least 15 minutes of training SO that they know enough to call somebody …

Get it?

The ‘Slinky’ Should Belong To The U.S. Government & It Should Recoup The Billions That Have Been Defrauded!

I, a few weeks ago, happened to be reading about the invention of the Slinky and was staggered to discover that the original spring that provided the inspiration had been manufactured for the U.S. Navy and that Richard T. James, the inventor, had seen it ‘Slink’ for the first time, at his Navy OFFICE — and that he had taken that government property spring HOME to experiment.

This was 1943. I have NOT checked the details BUT I have a very strong hunch that as a Government scientist/engineer he probably had signed some kind of intellectual property (IP) contract with the government. Basically it would have covered confidentiality and that ANY inventions made at any time, during once employment, BELONGED to the employer. In 1974 I had to sign such a contract with IBM. Basically ANYTHING I came up in terms of IP while I worked for IBM belonged to IBM — or at least I had to given them first option to evaluate whether they wanted it or not. IF I had done what R. T. James did, IBM (albeit more savvy in such matters than the U.S. Government) would have come after me with all guns blazing and as many would know, IBM employed a veritable army of high power IP lawyer.

From what I can see this was not right. I have NOT read anywhere that he sought Government approval to ‘steal’ this invention. I would even content that he misappropriated government property when he took the first spring home!

So how come the Government hasn’t done anything? Yes, maybe the statute of limitation is long gone. But there has got to be SOMETHING that can be done. This, to me, seems wrong. All the profits should BELONG to the U.S. Government — and they could sure do with it.

So a head’s up.

Oh How I Wish Janet Yellen Was On A Testosterone Boosting Regime.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Janet Yellen and was totally supportive of her replacing Dear Ben as the Federal Reserve Chairperson. What is there not to like about her?

BUT after yesterday’s momentous decision by the Fed’s NOT to raise the Fed Interest Rate I just wish she had more testosterone in her system. What we saw yesterday is the, rightly, much vaunted trait of females not to be as aggressive, confrontational and ‘in your face’. BUT in this case that is really what we needed. We needed Janet to be a Margaret Thatcher or my Aunty Bandaranaike — strong female leaders that were willing to make hard decisions.

We need to get this interest rate fiasco out of the way!

To be honest it bothers me NOWT! As somebody with an incurable addiction to option trading I LOVE the market volatility. Large market swings make me smile all day — not that I am not smiling most of the time anyway. I just feel bad for those that just ride the market and watch helpless when their IRA goes down. I just heard on CNBC this morning, bamboo stake up his derrière, “I tell God what to think every morning”, Ken ‘pompous’ Langone, bemoan how the ‘zero’ interest rates are crippling retirees on a ‘fixed income’. I had to laugh. Typical of bloody Langone. Clueless. I am retired BUT I wish my income was ‘fixed’. SMILE. Never understood that expression. “Fixed Income”. If you are salaried aren’t you also on a ‘fixed income’? Well, what can I say?

This interest rate ‘fear’ is such a joke. 0.25% or even 1% Fed interest rates are NOT going to kill anyone. They will, as CNBC correctly points out, NORMALIZE matters — and the markets — and GET one unnecessary Ken Langone like gorilla ‘out of the room’.

So PLEASE Janet go get some shots. Lets raise this damn rate SOON — definitely before Christmas. PLEASE let us NOT go into 2016 with this hanging over the market.

I just do NOT know whether I could tolerate that much FUN!

Janet, I am sure your Health Insurance will cover the costs of the shots. If NOT I will, on behalf of the entire World, gladly pay for them.

I recorded and watched “Pope Francis — The Sinner” on Thursday night.

It was good, exceeded my expectations. Lots of interesting footage and commentaries. Pithy and fast-paced.

Yes, I knew at least 95% of what was presented BUT then again I have spent a lot of time researching this pope and writing about him.

It is definitely worth watching ahead of the pope’s first visit to the U.S. next week.

I do talk about much of what is covered in this documentary in my
Pope Francis’ U.S. Visit 2015”.
