As I have mentioned before, and spelled out in some detail here, we have somewhat of a family connection with Andrew Wyeth. Deanna, who grew up in Cushing, Maine, where Wyeth had his Summer Home and did most of his most famous paintings, knew him and her aunt, by marriage, is ‘Siri‘, one of the young ladies, from Maine, painted by Wyeth.

So when Artsy sent me an e-mail about their new Andrew Wyeth page and asked whether I would feature it on this blog I was more than happy to oblige. Check it out. Neat resource. I was impressed and so will YOU. Cheers.

These two were taken by Deanna.

You have already seen some of the pictures I took, at Hampton Beach, on Sunday, August 23, 2015 — the day of the supposed BIG show.

These two pictures were taken by Deanna, with her camera. In the first I am striding, purposefully as ever, towards a seated group, with what I think were two topless women, who are doing an videotaped interview with ‘Zach’ who was planning to make a documentary of the ‘Free The Female Nipple‘, New Hampshire movement.

The picture I took of this group appears at the top of this post and you can, by all means, click on it to get a better view. They wouldn’t let me take a picture of them. C’est la vie. No great loss to humanity.

I then started chatting with Zach and asked him to interview me because I wanted to go on record as to what I thought of this ‘event’. I doubt whether you will find anybody more supportive of female toplness than I. But the Hampton Beach event was lame and nothing but an ill conceived, cheap publicity stunt by a few women who were desperately seeking their ’15 minutes in the sun’ though that was hard to come by that Sunday. There is nothing to PROTEST! Toplessness is permitted in NH. Just exercise YOUR RIGHT without trying to draw attention. That is what would work.

Now we will most likely see NEW legislation — whether constitutionally valid or otherwise. This event was regressive.

What has happened since. August 23rd was 8 days ago. How many women have exercised their LEGAL RIGHT of going topless at Hampton Beach? Does anybody know? What about other beaches and parks. It does NOT have to be beaches. Parks are fine too and anybody who has walked across a park in Germany in the Summer will know that topless sunbathing, by women, is the most natural thing in the world. That is something else. The so called ‘organizers’ of this NH movement. How many of them have been to Europe and seen, first hand, what casual, ‘most natural thing in the world’ female toplessness is all about.

My point when it comes to showing the female nipple is very simple and straightforward. JUST DO IT. Don’t make a fuss about it. Don’t attract attention. Just do it.

And PLEASE don’t bring in breastfeeding into this. Yes, I have hands on experience with that too and I will contend that I have more experience than any TWO of the so called organizers put together. No, of course, I did not breastfeed BUT I was around. My youngest was breastfed for 27 months. 27 months. My oldest for over 18 months and my 2nd oldest for about 14 months. That is 59 months of breastfeeding. Close to 5 years and these kids were breastfed on planes, airports, beaches, parks, restaurants, hospitals, malls, concerts … wherever. Yes, I had words with a FEW people over those years. BUT it was never a problem. So, PLEASE … don’t confuse the issue with something that is not part of the issue.

The issue here, from my perspective is very simple. Just go ahead and do it. The law is CURRENTLY on your side.

You can’t legislate ACCEPTANCE. I know. Discrimination based on skin color is illegal. But that doesn’t stop me running into that on a near daily basis. But I am not going to cry ‘boo-hoo’ and ask for acceptance to be legislated. That will not happen. I live with it.

FNMA = Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae).

I could be wrong BUT a house being ‘purchased’ by FNMA usually means that they have foreclosed on the house.

Hhhhmmmm.

FNMA is a Federal Government sponsored entity. Funny that. So push comes to shove Cormier obviously has no compunctions about BIG government bailing her out.

Well the visit is nearly upon us. Less than a month away. Close to 3 weeks. THE BOOK is out there for you. It, of course, talks about the ‘Madison Square Garden‘ event and its significance. See below. A lot of trivia about papal visits to the U.S. in this book. Lot of fun stuff, like the ticker tape parade and how the ‘jetsetting’ pope never actually came to the U.S. in a jet!

Well, what I said had to be said. The bundle, indubitably, is good value for money. I would NOT have got it, after all the months of research, if it was not. But you just need to be aware.

So far, so good with the camera. Here are 4 more images from the camera — DRAMATICALLY resized in terms of image size. The originals of these, in V.Fine quality, generate JPEG files as big as 18MG! What I am posting are 317KB! So a huge difference in size and hence quality!

Season 6 of “Downton Abbey” will start in the U.K., on independent ITV, on September 20, 2015. PBS does not plan to show it in the U.S. till Spring 2016. Not sure whether it will be available on YouTube or Acorn — as is the case with the “Great British Bake Off“. We watched Season 6 Episode 4 of the “Bake Off”, aired in Britain on Wednesday, August 26, yesterday. That wasn’t a question of availability, just our schedule. I think they manage to get at least one version up on YouTube within hours. Usually there are at least 2 versions of each episode, one invariably of better quality than the other. Yesterday we switched versions, the first one we tried was of painfully poor quality. So maybe we might get the same thing with “Downton”. If so I worry for dear PBS. We will NOW not be watching the “Bake Off” on PBS. We have seen it. We already know what each episode will be!

Prior episodes of “Downton” are indeed available on YouTube. But I am not sure they have them all.

Here is another “Downton Abbey” YouTube video of recent vintage — i.e., 2 weeks ago.
The quality is poor. So he warned.

Well compared to last year when we had a memorable cruise on ‘The Lake‘, the keyword, as far as I was concerned, for this year’s Volunteer Appreciation Cookout was ‘DRY‘.

Yes, it was dry in that it was a beautiful day, there was NO water in sight (which is a SHAME when we all live in the Lakes Region), I did not run the risk of getting soaked (as Bruce and I did last year by a rogue wave) because we were on very dry land and there was NO WINE — which to me makes everything very dry. Well, I fixed the wine paucity. The girls and I made a quick trip, in the XJ8, to the Wolfeboro Liquor Store. I did not realize how popular I am over there! Wow. Do I really visit them that often (and socialize with them)? Well in a way that was probably the most fun part of the afternoon making wine jokes at the Liquor Store(though I did tell my favorite Monica Lewinsky joke at the cockout because the mike (if not Mike) looked so forlong).

Of course it was nice to be with a few of the volunteers. Not sure where the others were.

The antique boats were allegedly the draw and they were sure nice though I am a tad puzzled how seeing a few, on trailers, inside a (lovely) barn was supposed to be something that special for this crowd. None of us are really strangers to boats or for that matter even classic boats. Hhhmmm. It is not like we don’t see classic boats on a regular basis …. Wasn’t there a big show, ON THE WATER, in Alton just a couple of weeks ago?

Well the 4 of us stayed on, with ‘Nancy’ and another lady, to help take down the tent, move all the tables and chairs etc. Teischan enjoyed that the best because she got to do a running commentary of what the others were doing. Maybe she was right. That was probably the best part of the cookout! There was at least some action. Funny that.

They, the five extremely gifted and versatile members from ‘Capitol Steps‘, were rip-roaringly, sidesplittingly funny. Extremely clever too. It was sophisticated, highbrow witticism — and a well-heeled, mature Lakes Region audience (and there were folks from as far away as Laconia) loved it. There was no resort to crudity or gutter-humor. It was all top-notch, equal-opportunity, no-sacred-cows lampooning. That it was done, by and large, with new words to well known musical classics — such as ‘The Boxer’, ‘Let It Be’, ‘Hotel California’ — made it even more special and easy on the ear. The jokes were true gems and I wish I had had the foresight to have taken notes.

“Obama” saying that one of his concerns about taking out Basher al-Assad in Syria was his fear that his brother Jeb al-Assad will step into the breach. Cracked me up. Bill Clinton shrugging his shoulders as to whether he was implicated by the ‘Ashley Madison‘ security breach had to be seen to be fully appreciated and I could relate to Bill saying that he didn’t have Hillary’s e-mail because he never asked her for hers incase she asked him for his. George W. Shrub talking to Obama about gay marriage and saying that he thinks it will please the BLT community was so close to the mark that it was scary. You could see the Shrub doing that.

Pope Francis singing “Don’t Cry for me Argentina” was SUBLIME though I am sure 90% of the audience did not know of the Pope’s “dark days” in Argentina which is what really made this poignant. I actually talked about Francis’ “dark days” in Argentina in my latest book — about Pope Francis’ visit to the U.S. in September 2015 — since he will come across a reminder of these days when he is in D.C.

The sequence shown here of Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio protecting the border against NATIVE Americans was both funny, thought provoking and unsettling.

capitalstepsmos2b

Though it was predominantly political humor they parodied others too. Tim Cook of Apple bemoaned that the Apple watch did everything BUT tell the time. Loved that, though I am, of course, an Apple shareholder. They also lampooned Bob Dylan and Deanna, who has never liked him (probably because she was too young to have savored him in his prime), loved it. It always upsets me when people make fun of Dylan — who I was lucky enough to see, about 10 years ago, from the 2nd row, at Gilford. I am a huge Dylan fan.

The scene of Mitch McConnell and a laid back, slovenly attired Harry Reid getting married to boost the popularity of Congress was worthy of Seinfeld.

All in all it was a BLAST. The audience just lapped it up. Our largest audience of the year! The huge, 800-seat Kingswood Performance Center auditorium was nearly full. I, for the first time ever, had to sit on the ‘floor’! But it was worth it.

BRAVO and THANK YOU.

capitalstepsmos3c

capitalstepsmos1a

They finished off the show, which was well over two hours long, with their inspired take — to Billy Joel’s iconic “We Didn’t Start The Fire” — but with THEIR take on the 33 years of THEIR existence (as opposed to Billy Joel’s take on the key hundred events of 1949 to 1989). It was GOOD. It was GREAT. It was VERY CLEVER. OK, I will be honest. It wasn’t as good as the version by the Sky Sports cricket commentators, but it was close — and the Sky version had multiple singers and was masterfully edited and produced.

The “Capitol Steps” version, as was to be expected made much of Monica Lewinsky’s Blue Dress. I loved that part, so much so that after the show I had to go and take this picture of the dress. But, MY Monica joke, in my opinion, still stands tall.

First FOUR Full-Size and hence LARGE.

The Sony a77 II, ordered through Amazon BUT fulfilled (i.e., shipped) by ‘Cameta Camera‘ arrived today, Friday, August 28, 2015 — albeit with Deanna going to the Post Office to pick it up.

Yes, we have a video of me unpacking it. So far, so good. Everything that Cameta said would be in the box was in the box and THERE is, contrary to what folks (including Cameta) had said, a Sony lens hood for the Sony 16-50mm SSM lens. That was a bonus since this is a $75 hood!

I took my time unpacking and sorting out all the bits. The Sony battery, with the Sony charger, took over 4 hours to fully charge. Instruction manual says 3 BUT maybe it was because it was the first charge. More about the Cameta bundle in another post.

Once I had the battery and my 64GB card (as opposed to the one supplied by Cameta) I felt obliged to snap some pictures.

These were taken WITHOUT ANYTHING being set on the Menus — other than date and time. Just set the Focus Mode Dial to ‘A’. That was all. The pictures shown above were shot on ‘P’ and ‘Auto’. I am reasonably happy. Tomorrow I will customize the camera.

It feels good and I love the illuminated viewfinder.

So far, so good.
