I am no stranger to Rosetta/Philae.
I talked about the mission in my Comet book. Check it out.

There is more in my Black Comet ISON book. Check that out too.

Philae_over_a_comet_(crop)Well we all knew that gravity, or lack thereof, was going to be a problem. That it is currently precariously perched on the side of a cliff and not getting much sunlight is a bummer BUT I reckon that this will change. Lets not forget that Philae is on a comet HURTLING towards the Sun at incredibly high speed.

Next perihelion is on August 13, 2015.

I believe that Philae will definitely get sunlight after the perihelion when all the orientations switch around and possibly even before as some of the mass of the comet starts to sublimate due to the radiation from the Sun.

So I am not writing Philae off. It might not have enough battery power for a few months BUT then it might, yet again, emerge from the shadow it is now under.

On Friday morning, following this post, ESA CONFIRMED my assertion that Philae could get its ‘time in the Sun’ as it gets closer to the Sun. Whatever you may think, I do know my comets. [SMILE].
