I took in excess of 70 pictures of the parade, independent of the Clearlakes Chorale caroling ahead of the parade. I have all the pictures of the parade in two forms below: as an automated YouTube slideshow (video) with music or as a gallery. You take your pick. The YouTube slideshow is fun. You can, of course, look at BOTH. Enjoy.

We stumbled upon this very clever and guaranteed to be fun communal event after our Saturday morning ballet class in Wolfeboro, N.H. while waiting for the 2014 Christmas Tree Lighting and parade to start. I have to admit that it was the gingerbread lady that initially attracted me to the event. I wanted a picture of her. She kindly invited the two 8 year olds to participate. The rest is history.

Wonderful crowd inside. Realtors are always so convivial and one even mistook me for another ‘brown’ guy in Wolfeboro which kind of miffed me because I like being the only brown guy around. For the world of me I can’t remember if I have ever used Spencer-Hughes for any of my many real estate transactions around the Lake over the last 25 years. They all kind of blur into a jumble after a while. Got to meet the eponymous Mr. Robert Hughes (the President and Broker at the agency) and Fae Moore. Very pleasant people.

I gather this was an event that they had used to do and had fallen by the wayside for a few years. Glad they resurrected it. Kids loved it. Great way to get people to come into the office and get to know some of the people. Well done Spencer-Hughes.

Very clever, very cute and beautifully executed.

Thank YOU.

I wish more people got to see it.

Best I could do. Nowhere I could climb to get a better vantage.

Much appreciated.

Merry Christmas.

Most Thursday nights for the last three years I had to take Devanee for Clearlakes Chorale practice in Wolfeboro, N.H. Didn’t mind at all. Gave me a chance to listen to the music and also get an hours walk, in the dark, around ever delightful Wolfeboro.

Now for the last couple of months I have to take Teischan to ballet classes in Wolfeboro Saturday mornings. Again I don’t mind. Yes, it means I have to get up a hour and hour ahead of my normal schedule but I would never begrudge that a child. While she is at class I use the hour for yet another walk, this time in daylight, around Wolfeboro. I love Wolfeboro. Have been going there since 1991. So never a hardship. Always fun. Always something to see. Something to learn. Today I really didn’t need to do an hours walk. I had done my usual 2.5 mile run Wednesday and had spent about 5 hours shoveling snow since then. But I did a leisurely walk, with the camera. Took some pictures. Devanee tagged along. That was good. We went back with about 5 minutes to spare. Managed to get these pictures.

This is our third Wolfeboro, N.H., Christmas Tree lighting with Clearlakes Chorale (which during that time has become an integral part of our family life). That girl in green who appears to figure prominently in all the videos and photos makes sure of that. We are glad. It is always a lot of fun. Great people.

Funnily enough the gentleman standing directly behind the girl in green is the FAMOUS Steve Barlow who just happens to be fixing her Green MGB right at this moment. Notice there is a green theme in her life. This was the first time she got to meet Steve because she was at school when Steve came to check out the car and I had the car towed to his place in Wolfeboro. Steve had no idea she was going to be signing at the Christmas Tree lighting. So that was all neat — though he also told us, right off the get go, what the ‘damage was’, as soon as we met.

All in all a real fun afternoon. I have a TON of photos of the Wolfeboro Parade and Santa and Mrs. Claus lighting the tree. I will try to post them in the next few days.

Enjoy. Merry Christmas.

More posts to do with the Thanksgiving weekend and our 2nd visit to “Roger’s Redliner Diner“, in Portsmouth, N.H. will follow.

Just posting this picture for those from around the world that want, for reasons that kind of escape me, to see what we all look like. I will not go into details as to who is who, those that know will know and this is mainly for those if you see what I mean.

This picture, actually a series of three, was taken by Ramona (with my Canon Rebel T3i), our delightful waitress, on BOTH our visits to Roger’s. Funnily enough you can see the eponymous Mr. Roger reflected in the mirror in a reddish shirt. Nice job, as ever, Ramona. Thanks.

This picture was taken at 8:43 pm on Friday, November 28, after we had gone to see “Penguins of Madagascar” at the Cinemagic in the same ‘complex’ as the Diner.

But, have a look IF you have DirecTV. StarZ is available, for free. Looks like it will be there till Sunday night, November 30.

POM_sq500_s11_w2.0I was hoping to see “Annie” (2014) at Thanksgiving. When we had gone to see “The Boxtrolls” in October we has seen the compelling trailers for “Annie” and “Paddington“. I had the notion that Annie was to be shown around Thanksgiving. I guess I was wrong by about a week and a half. It is scheduled to be in New Hampshire c. December 7. Why they didn’t make it a Thanksgiving movie will remain a mystery to me. But the “Penguins” was on, it tied in to the always funny “Madagascar” movies and as such I had two eight year olds who were all in favor that going to see it would be the perfect way to spend Black Friday afternoon. So we went to Cinemagic in Portsmouth, now my favorite movie complex, to see the “Penguins of Madagascar” in 3D.

It was classic mindless fun. Well animated and the 3D was just a tad short of Goldilocks perfection: not too harshly dramatic nor utterly flaccid, but just a teeny weeny bit away from sheer perfection. But, it was close enough. The 3D was clearly rendered and easy on the eye. 3D did not try to intrude, nor was it the end all, and be all of the movie. The color was vivid and there were very few dark scenes of any sort.

Reminded me of early Indian ‘Bollywood‘ movies. This was escapism for the sake of escapism and there is nothing wrong with that. Some blatant escapism is always rather cleansing. All you had to do was sit back, relax and just let the movie take you on a jape of a journey. Yes, of course it was clever but you could thoroughly enjoy it without having to worry about appreciating all of the clever cerebral stuff thrown in.

Kids liked it. It, however, will not displace “Frozen“, at least among the girls. Frozen, possibly through the music, just like the spell in the movie, has managed to cast a binding spell over its female fan base.

All in all just a fun, kids cartoon, funny and fast faced. Cute characters. Nothing really not to like. So if you need to take a kid to the movie prior to Annie, this will certainly do.

Enjoy.

PSNH Power Outage In Alton (N.H.), Thanksgiving 2014, From ~5pm Nov. 26 to ~7:20pm Nov. 27. [26 Hours]

The two Sears mid-size generators which made the 26 outage bearable and manageable.

This, for us in Alton, served by PSNH as opposed to the Electric Co-Op, was the longest outage in many  a year. It was a humdinger. 26 hours over Thanksgiving. But it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. For that I am thankful. That I was lucky enough to have two working generators, that chugged away, non-stop for hours, much to my amazement, certainly helped. It would have been very different if NOT for the two generators. When they are going 70% of the house has power and we have heat, oven, microwave and running water. So cooking a full Thanksgiving dinner with Turkey and Ham was not a challenge. All the outlets don’t work so the toaster oven was not operational but that was not a big deal since the big oven was on all day.

The last PSNH outage, in Alton, that I am aware of was on June 18, 2014. So that was 161 days previously. The one prior to that was on November 27, 2013. Fancy that, PSNH outages on November 27 two years running!

So in away we really can’t complain. Yes, I was miffed. I am always miffed when we lose power. Can’t help it. I am not sure that a 26 hour outage was warranted. But at least we got power back before we had to spend a 2nd night without power.

I am always much more sanguine once the power comes on and I find everything, especially the Internet connections, are back to normal. I am nowhere close to as livid as I was say at 2pm on Thanksgiving Day. That said I was pretty cool all day — once I went and got 14 gallons of gas, in 2 trips, to make sure that we had enough juice to go through a second day. I spent much of the day either reading or shoveling snow — both activities I enjoy. I had the Turkey in the over by 9 am and the ham didn’t require that many hours.

The power has flickered a few time since. That makes me jittery. But I am OK.

It was a memorable Thanksgiving thanks to the storm and the outage. All in all it was not bad at all. We had fun. The relatives arrived, slightly ahead of schedule. That was fun. They brought me a TON of good wine! I haven’t tapped into them yet but they will get drunk.

This was the longest run for our 2 generators. They exceeded my expectations. I am impressed. That was a lot of work for them. Hopefully they can have a long break before I need to use them in anger again.
