Canadians, quite rightly, take the November 11 “Remembrance Day“, a.k.a. “Poppy Day“, very seriously. So this will make this year’s events even more poignant. This was uncalled for. Plus we are ALL in the midst of honoring the 100th anniversary of the start of WW I.

Starting yesterday they want us, i.e., Fidelity online customers, to test drive the new user interface. I was in a hurry yesterday, BUT did.
I kind of like it. LOTS of information on one busy screen BUT I like data. I am a strong believer that you can never have enough data. So in that respect I am a believer.
All the columns are also sortable. That can be handy, BUT be aware of it. IF you accidentally did a sort, all your positions will be in the ‘wrong’ places, BUT there should be a THICK underline below the column that is currently active in terms of the sort. IF the thick underline is NOT under ‘Symbol’ then your positions will not be in alphanumeric order. Remember that.
Yes, ‘Pending Activity’ is also still there BUT not as prominently. Look for it below. You can click on the ‘+’ to expand it.
The ‘Options Summary’ is neat. I could get addicted to that.
The one thing that really sucks. ‘Current Value’ & ‘Quantity’ are columns 5 & 6 respectively. That is awkward.
I called up Fidelity and, as ever, spoke with a very nice Rep. He ‘confessed’ that I wasn’t the first person to complain about this. Even he didn’t like it.
We agreed that the BEST solution would be to give us the option to reorder the columns. That would be REAL neat.
Found something else and just conveyed it to Fidelity. Screens do NOT automatically resize. So if you move an open tab from one screen to another, as I can and will do — with my dual-monitor set up — the tab doesn’t automatically resize. YOU have to manually hit the Windows resize button at the top. Fidelity now knows about it.
So that is about it. I like it. It is a LOT. I will get used to it. IF they give us movable columns it could be real nice.

The timing and the weather are BOTH against us.
Even if we had decent weather the timing really sucks.
Basically the eclipse starts JUST as the Sun, for us in N.H.,
is ducking below the trees and then the horizon.
When I did my presentation on the ‘Sky Above Alton’
the other night I talked about this since many
have never really thought about it.
We have trees, lots of trees, in NH.
Those get in the way of seeing things that
happen close to the horizon.
So these 3 images tell us all that we need to know.
Timing, i.e., 5:39 pm & RAIN.
In each case click to ENLARGE.
I will give you a heads up before the next one — in 2015.

Deanna has been on Workmen’s Comp, alas through Liberty bloody Mutual, since June 2006 after she got injured, as an LNA, at St. Francis Nursing Home (Laconia, N.H.), on a Sunday, transferring a large elderly patient from a chair to their bed. The patient decided to let go of their ‘legs’ and Deanna suddenly, via the ‘transfer GAIT belts’ that nurses wear when doing this, was trying to support 200 lbs of additional weight. Deanna is now officially disabled and we even have a disable sign for the car.
To be fair Liberty Mutual, until a few months ago, was relatively decent. Yes, of course, they try to deny everything and pay for the minimum. Well, that is par for the course (and yes, of course, we do have a Workmen’s Comp lawyer). But at least you, i.e., Deanna, could talk to a Rep at Liberty bloody Mutual and try and get some stuff done.
That is now all history.
Liberty bloody Mutual, as far as it pertains to us, has gone AWOL. They just STOPPED doing anything.
They don’t answer the phone.
No, we are NOT talking about them not returning calls. We are talking about them NOT answering the phone. So you can’t even leave a message. They won’t answer the bloody phone.
They just ignore her doctor’s request for treatment!
Yes, they don’t deny it. They just IGNORE the request. So Deanna is not getting any treatment!
They are not paying the invoices.
It would be a bloody joke if it wasn’t so serious.
Yes, starting NOW I will be on the case.
But, my goal is to give you all a HEADS UP.
Stay well clear of Liberty bloody Mutual.
In the case of Workmen’s Comp you don’t, alas, have a choice. Your employer will get Liberty bloody Mutual because they probably are the cheapest — which they can be because they do not PAY.
So, be careful. Be very careful.
I am just sharing with you what we are going through right now.
