Hilton Head, as far as I recall, is the only place in South Carolina that I have visited. I could, however, be wrong on that. I have, doing work for both IBM and Cisco at Research Triangle Park (RTP), spent a LOT of time in North Carolina. I have also been to Charlotte and Greensboro. So it is possible that I may have crossed the border.

But, until this morning I had no idea that the evocative ‘crescent moon’, now so readily identified with other cultures, is a ‘famous’ iconic symbol in South Carolina. We were going to Concord, N.H. and driving behind a huge, black truck with a colorful number plate that I (nor Devanee who is trying to master them) recognized. Neither of us, despite our supposed contact-lens powered 20/20 vision, could read the name on the top. The best that we could do, to begin with, was to say that it a two word state. I actually surmised that it probably was ‘South Carolina’ based on the ‘orangy’ colour scheme and the tree. When the truck stopped at lights, in Pittsfield, we nearly rear-ended it trying to get close enough to read the name. I was right: South Carolina.

Then I noticed the crescent moon. It is hard to miss. Wow.

So, I had to look it up when I got home. I did. Of course it is not a coincidence. I didn’t think it was. Interesting. Live and learn. I love that.
