Deanna found the above link about them becoming U.S. Ambassadors of sorts — and was, understandably, happy and impressed.
Great news. Great group, great bunch of guys. We were very impressed with them as both artists and human beings. I said that their parents should be very proud. I am very happy for them, I am very happy for the U.S. Filligar represents all that is the very best of contemporary youth and culture. They will entertain, inspire and gratify. This is great. Made my day.
Well done boys. Now I will have to find when you are going to be within 100 miles of us. I will get Deanna to check. Yes, we will come and watch you again. Maybe you could come to Dartmouth. Actually I am going to forward this to my contact at the Hop.

Just amazes me about all the downright duplicity, 95% by the unscrupulous Malaysians, that we have all been subject to over the last week. I feel for the poor families. Good job there aren’t any Americans camped out at the China airport.
The Maldives has crossed my mind a few times since we heard that the plane was in the air for at least 4 more hours than originally claimed.
The Maldives is well within that reach. It is an Islamic nation and I kind of know that there has been some degree of political ‘unrest’ over there. (Yes, I have been to the Maldives, twice. But that was c. 1965. There were no commercial flights to the Maldives at that time. I went by ship, both times, on the ‘Maldive Star‘.)
I kind of remember hearing that there is at least one fairly long military landing strip on one of the remote islands to the far South. We are talking about a LOT of very remote islands stretched across a huge swath of ocean.
I am more convinced about one thing than I was even a few days ago. IF this plane got anywhere close to Sri Lankan airspace my ‘cousins’ over there would have spotted it. Whatever you may say about us brownies from Sri Lanka we are more competent and capable than most of the others around us — and definitely a few orders of magnitude superior to the bumbling Malaysians. That said, it does cross my mind whether there was a PLOT to land the plane in Sri Lanka. I am not 100% sure but I have a hunch that there could be two strips on the East Coast, Trinco and Batticaloa, where MH370 could have landed — in a pinch, with lots of reverse thrust. But, this would only have happened with ‘approval’ — and that is a stretch. If this was during ‘THE WAR’ it would have made more sense. So, I think we can dismiss Sri Lanka — other than basking in the knowledge that if MH370 was anywhere close the Sri Lankans would NOT have missed it.
Wow. Am I so thankful that I don’t have to live in a country run by this guy. Did they just wake him up and wheel him into this Press Conference. He looks scared, confused and totally and utterly befuddled.
Please Tell Me It Ain’t So: Alton Central School Principal Sydney Leggett Thinking Of Leggin It To (Her Native) Gilford?

I received the following e-mail from a typically impeccable Alton source this morning. Per the time stamp it was sent at 10:07 this morning.
I am beyond floored.
Despite the credentials of the source I have to believe that this cannot be the case. There are TWO major flaws as far as I can see.
I cannot for the world of me see Sydney abandoning the school she is so committed to. Can’t see that happen. So this has to be false.
The 2nd thing that doesn’t ring true is that she is ‘one of the 3 finalists‘. That CANNOT BE! Sydney, per everything she has told us over the last 3 to 4 years, is in a stratospheric league of her own. When I saw this e-mail, with its ‘Mrs. Legget‘ (sic.) subject line I immediately assumed that it was to tell me that Sydney, as we had been expecting, had won “New England Principal of the Year”. It was not possible for her to be ‘one of …’ — anything. IF she applied she would be the immediate and automatic pick — no contest. Matter closed. So this has to be bogus.
I did a quick Google. OK, it is true that Gilford Middle School is indeed looking for a Principal.
Wow, my “buddy” Paul Warnick is on the Search Committee. I was going to see him at the end of the month. Now I will have to e-mail him. [I did NOT get the above e-mail from Paul Warnick! I would not be that stupid to post it, if it was from any Gilford source. The e-mail was from an Alton parent — as plainly stated right in the first sentence. Paul is much too professional and savvy to have divulged anything like that. Plus, he doesn’t e-mail me!]
What should I tell him? That he can’t deprive Alton of the BEST principal that they have ever had? I can’t even imagine ACS without Sydney. Who would Champion Common Core and bravely stand up to the School Board? Who will make sure that the stringent dietary standards of Alton are not compromised by indulging in Pie on Pi Day? I could go on an on.
But, this is a FALSE ALARM.
Legget will never leg it from her beloved ACS.
Never mind the kids and the parents, what about the ‘poor’ teachers? They would be beside themselves.
I need to get back to some real work. This was a distraction BUT I am glad it was, like the Carbon Monoxide scare, just nothing. All I ever hear from the teachers (and to be honest it kind of gets tedious given that I have heard it so many times) is how things are so different under her leadership.
