885′ 2000EM26 Asteroid Will Streak Past Earth Tomorrow, February 17, 2014, 2.1 Million Miles Away — Travelling At 27,000 mph.
…by Anura Guruge
Nothing to worry.
It will NOT hit us. Promise!
2.1 million miles, in astronomical terms, is ‘close’
but it still doesn’t even warrant a fag
let alone a Cuban.
2.1 million miles is 8.8 times the
distance between the Earth and Moon,
the so called ‘Lunar Distance’.
So it is 8.8 times further out than the Moon.
Here is the JPL orbital plot.
Note how the asteroid has fairly compact
orbital path around the Sun.
Here is a decent article from ‘Space.com’.
