**** UPDATE ****
Alton Central School (ACS) at 9:37 p.m. does the DEED … at last.
Aren’t these coincidences as with the ACS Handbook Cover so funny & strange.
Given that nobody at ACS reads this stupid blog or pays any attention to Deanna’s Facebook rants it is but a coincidence, that after waiting 8 hours post Prospect, ACS goes public WITHIN an hour of this post — which by the way was read by quite a few people as soon as it was posted!
What is important is that they finally gave the parents a heads-up.
Wouldn’t it have been so much MORE CONSIDERATE if, like Prospect, ACS too had notified the parents earlier in the day to give them as much time as possible to make arrangements for the kids coming home early.
The ACS Administration could do well to follow Samuel Langhorne Clemens’ famous saying:
“Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest.”
So what is the deal here?
What is the ACS Administration playing at, especially given the rather incongruous phone calls and e-mails, this afternoon, around 2:15 pm, saying that they will notify us of an early school closing ASAP — but no later than 10 am on Thursday.
Yes, I understand that there are a lot of politics involved in school closing, 2 hour delays, early releases given that a few minutes here and there can make all the difference whether it was a ‘snow day’ of not.
This doesn’t make much sense to me — but that is true when it comes to much of what this much vaunted administration does.
Deanna informs me that she has done her own post on Facebook, yet again more strident than what you will read here.
Yes, I understand that Prospect is a few miles away from ACS and on slightly higher ground. But, does Mr. William (Bill) Lander really think that Alton is going to get two separate storms: one for Prospect and another for ACS?
While I appreciate that the buses can indeed do two separate trips, one for Prospect and the other for ACS, I really don’t think we want them trying to squeeze in two bus trips Thursday afternoon with this storm looming.
So what gives. Is it just that Principal Leggett likes to make 5 am phone calls so that we are impressed by her dedication to duty. I am disconnecting the phone tonight! I prefer not to hear her voice that early in the morning.
Strange. Very strange.

We stopped by the Verizon Center, Manchester, Box Office on Sunday, on the way back from Boston, Chinatown, to see if we could buy tickets. We were, alas, two days too early. Ticket sales, from the Box Office, were due to start as of Tuesday, February 11, 2014 — i.e., yesterday.
Tickets have been available, online, since Saturday. But, on principle, there is NO WAY, that I will pay the criminal TicketMaster fees to get them. Cheaper and more satisfying to just drive to Manchester! Screw TicketMaster.
I am not worried, at all, that the tickets will be sold out. I am not going to make a special trip just for the tickets. As is always the case we will be going ‘down’ that way, for something or another, within the week. Swing by then. I have very specific sections in the arena that I seek tickets for. We are no strangers to the arena. Most folks don’t realize that you can get good seats at the Verizon without paying top dollar.
Emmi-Dent Ultrasonic Toothbrush: Final Verdict — Does NOT Remove Stains; Waste Of Money. Peroxide Works Better.

I get a lot of folks coming here looking for elucidation on the Emmi-Dent. Though I have done a number of posts, as can be seen from the list above, I appear not to have been clear enough because people still seem to be confused and undecided.
There is still and Emmi-Dent toothbrush in our bathroom — but I do NOT use it. I stopped using it in September of last year. The only reason I spend money of ‘ultrasonic’ toothbrushes is that I keep on, fruitlessly so far, looking for a silver-bullet for my teeth staining nightmare. That is, thank god (whoever that is), the only problem I have with my (horse-like) teeth. I drink a lot of ‘black’ tea — two to three mugs during the afternoon. That on top of my two mugs of coffee and my glass of diluted red wine. It is that tanning that is the bane of my life — or at least my teeth.
The Emmi-Dent was pretty useless at even making a dent on my staining — despite its claims.
My new regime of hydrogen peroxide and brutally hard scrubbing, which I can get away with given that I have strong teeth and healthy gums, work much better than the Emmi-Dent ever did. Sorry. But, the facts are facts. My staining, right now, is pretty minimal and over 95% of my teeth are brilliantly white — which helps with my trademark grin.
The Emmi-Dent vibrates but I am not convinced that it produces any ultrasonic waves. Not sure how I can check it. I dunked it in water to see if I could see any waves. Nada. I am sure it will make an excellent personal ‘massager’ for women but, though I am not an expert, I am sure that there are even better personal ‘massagers’ at a much cheaper price.
So bottom line: stay away from from Emmi-Dent If you are looking for a toothbrush to fight tooth staining. It might do other things, though I am not sure what, but it sure didn’t do anything to dent my stains.
Hydrogen peroxide works and is damn CHEAP. That is all I am going to say. That is all I have to say. Thanks.

Yes, he prefaces his comments by saying that he is from L.A. and as such doesn’t know anything about snow. That is a bit of a LAME excuse for a highly-compensated talking head. I am from Ceylon, which has never had any snow, and I am an expert on snow, ice and snow shovels.
He is standing at an outside table at a school just outside Atlanta, GA, to show the viewers the type and amount of precipitation coming down from the skies.
He says that there was nothing on the table when they got there at 5 am.
Then he scoops up a couple of handfuls of fairly fluffy white stuff and goes on referring to it as the ICE accumulation.
Nick, you can’t scoop up ice — unless you chip it off the surface, and if you do that it won’t be all white and fluffy. Don’t they have ice picks in Hollywood.
Nick, at best you are scooping up some sleet — mixed with snow.
You talk about how somebody more expert than (poor) you (from LA) might be able to make a snowman with the stuff you are scooping up. Nick, my 7 year old will tell you that you can’t make a snowman out of ice. IF you could, or did, it is unlikely, even in LA, to be called a ‘snowman’. Iceman would be the better, and actually appropriate, description.
What cracks me up is that CNN has producers and experts. But nobody bothers to put poor Nick straight.
