Do You Think We Will Ever Get The Real Story As To How Bob Costas Got His ‘Red Eye’ As Soon As He got To Sochi?
by Anura Guruge
All I can says is: ‘those friendly, fun loving, many very fetching … Russian girls’.
But, I would suggest that you keep the lap dancing restricted to the LAP.
Plus always remember to wash your hands afterwards …
Yes, I have been to Russia, twice.
Sri Lanka’s Absence From Sochi Olympics Got Me Curious About Population Growth, Birth Rate etc. — Especially Now That They Have TV!

Well these two graphic I found on the Web tell the story, eloquently.

I left in 1967 when the population, even then considered ‘dense’,
was reaching 12 million.
My adoptive father, always the comedian, used to joke, at that time, i.e., c. 1967, that the population was so high because Ceylon at that time had no TV. Per his thesis, which does make sense, sans TV procreation was the only ‘relatively cheap’ mass entertainment available for the masses. I think Sri Lanka (which changed its name 1972) got TV, one channel I think, in 1979. But, the population has continued to grow.
The birth rate has come down — quite a bit.
But, ‘we’ now have MORE women, overall, each producing 2.29 babies …
How Sri Lanka’s 20 million population compares against other countries …
Sri Lanka basically has twice the population of Greece. That is pretty amazing. Greece in terms of LAND is twice as big. So Sri Lanka is half the size, twice the population.
Sri Lanka has more people than Chile. Norway has just 5 million and Sweden 9.6 million. That is crazy.
Of course this means that tiny Sri Lanka is densely populated.
This map shows it and I highlighted where Sri Lanka is
— since I do know that most of you in the U.S. have no idea.
Definitely food for thought.
With this kind of population we really should be doing better in the world when it comes to sport — rather than just in cricket.
Norway is leading the Sochi Olympics in medals right now. No, I don’t expect that ‘we’ will ever be great guns at the Winter Olympics but with 4 x the population of Norway we really should be winning more medals at the Summer Olympics.
All this said, I really think they should start putting hormones in the water to get the birth rate down to below 2.

I had been vaguely aware of it over the last 48 hours …
Love the picture of the folks, in Wellingtons (that is WHAT they are called), standing stoically on Dachet, Main Street. That is US Brits. Stiff upper lip and all of that.
You can find plenty of coverage, of course, online. Google ‘Thames’.
Oh, all the folks I know back home are ‘OK’. Father Anthony Churchill, who would have been the one most affected, is actually on his bi-yearly vacation in Sunny Goa [Indian subcontinent] (from where he still manages to e-mail me, from an ‘Internet cafe’, about my latest book).
Zero Opposition To Alton Central School $3.9 Million Bond, Article II, PORTENDS Historic Victory For ACS Supporters!

Wow, what a difference a year and a $14 Million reduction makes.
Who would have thought that this kind of across-the-board, bilateral unity could be found in Alton when it came to spending ANY money on improving ACS facilities.
This year it appears that everybody, whether ‘concerned-taxpayer’, ACS parent, Democrat, Republican, ACS staff, Tea Partier, are all, metaphorically holding hands and singing Kumbaya. This portends for a near 100% majority at the ballot. Who would have thought.
Wow. I did a bit of research. Zero opposition. No Facebook snipes, sponsored leaflets, letters to the media. This is good. But, I am a tad surprised. As far as I can see this $4.2 Million initiative doesn’t address any kind of renovation to the existing older building — e.g., enhancing the ventilation or getting proper industrial-grade Carbon Monoxide detectors. But, it is possible that money for such renovations is already there doing nothing, sitting collecting 0.02% interest.
It is amazing that the fractious, factious and fustian Alton Central School Board, who can’t even agree on ‘Common Core‘, came together on this $3.9 Million article and passed it, 3-0, with NO dissenters. Wow. Wonder what they are up to? Very unlike them to agree on something major like this ‘unanimously’ — though I think the Board is supposed to have more than 3 people on it.
I haven’t seen any images of what this new addition is going to look like. I am sure that our well compensated and apparently infallible (not to mention Teflon-coated) Architect must have done some works-of-art. Maybe they are already hanging at the Currier.
So let the building start …
