Wow, as I said in my Feb. 11 post, what a difference a year and a $14 Million reduction makes.
Lot of talk, emotions, ‘letters to the editor’ and much machinations about the other warrant articles, especially the ones to do away with the Alton Town Planner and Assessor, but nobody is even mentioning, in passing, the $3.9 million bond (other than one unnecessary, and rather pathetic, begging letter). It is a done deal. In the bag. So at last we will have some closure at least for 3 months before they come up with the plan and another bond for renovating the rest of the school. I think there will be a fairly good turnout for the March 11 election given the other articles. Since ALL those in favor of those articles, and what are they, 2 (though I think you have to vote ‘no’ on that one), #42 & #43, will agree that $3.9 million is a BARGAIN compared to the $18 million of last year, I think this will pass by 75% (or more). Now that I have taken a good ‘read’ I worry for Mike Cryans in Alton. But, I know that Mike is aware that Alton is a ‘Red Town‘.
Well, at least we know the outcome of one of the articles.
KIA (USA): There Is No End To The Duplicity. KIA Is Scamming Owners Of Their Gas Milage Rebate Cards.

I have had it with KIA and Hyundai. We have owned Hyundai/KIA for the last 6 six years — BUT NEVER AGAIN. The lease on our KIA Sportage ends next June and I will NEVER get a KIA/Hyundai again. I don’t joke about such matters. I hate being exploited.
I like the cars. It is the outright DUPLICITY of the KIA dealership hierarchy, top-to-bottom, that bothers me, greatly.
That KIA thought that they could LIE to the U.S. customers about their mileage ratings still amazes me. That takes a lot of balls and lets face it a penchant for duplicity. That bothers me. IF they will lie about that what else are they lying about. Could they be lying about the air bags? Safety?
Let me tell you how they have scammed us with this alleged gas rebate. Contrary to what somebody commented here we are entitled to a gas rebate on the Sportage. KIA USA says we are eligible to a $153 rebate. It gets better. They say they sent us a card! Well we never got one. So Deanna kept on pressing them. Eventually they said this is whom we sent the card to. It wasn’t us! Somebody had put a different name and address against OUR VIN number for the card. Wasn’t us. We can’t change that. But basically somebody had our $153 gas card diverted to someone else. Strange … right? They say they paid “us”, as they were supposed to — it is just that we never got the card! How convenient.
So Deanna has been calling KIA USA, like every week. $153 is $153. They say that they are trying to help us. They wanted Deanna to fill the paperwork again. Then we had to hand deliver it to the dealership. That was in early January. Deanna just talked to KIA USA again … just now … which is why this post. She talked to them last week and the week before that. The dealership is NOT forwarding the paperwork to them! KIA USA claims (and who knows how true that is) that they have called the dealership asking them for the paperwork — obviously to no avail. Strange … right?
Bottom line: we still don’t have the $153 owed to us. That is a FACT.
I just talked to the Manager. I have had it. They just don’t give a damn.
The Very Best Of British Humor, Ingenuity & Cars In A Remarkable Ad by ‘Aston Martin’ For Their Used Cars.

There times when I get so chuffed and relieved that I am a Brit. This is my humor. This is what I live for. Bravo. Made my day. I did not, alas, find this. Though Bentley, ever hopeful, sends me e-mails about their latest cars and promotions, alas Aston Martin ignores me — as they should. No, I couldn’t even afford a used Aston, though Devanee now has it in her mind that we are going to buy a used Bentley or Roller in the next few years. She lives in hope.
I never understood why ads like this are considered ‘not American’.
P.S., I do know that this ad. is a fake but that doesn’t detract from its British connotations. It would only work with a British car.

No, no, it is NOT your imagination. GoDaddy e-mail is again acting up — particularly in terms of receiving, i.e., delivering, e-mail. As far as I can tell everything is coming through, i.e., nothing is getting lost — it is just very, very slow, even by GoDaddy’s recent standards.
I did two TIMED e-mail tests by sending e-mail to my GoDaddy account, from Yahoo and GMail, with timestamps embedded in the e-mail. First one took 34 minutes to get delivered, the other 37 minute. Yes, I cross-delivered them too. Don’t forget I have over 4o years experience in this stuff. Delivery to Gmail was instantaneous. So it wasn’t a delay at the sender. Just GoDaddy. Just another cross to bear when it comes to SlowDaddy.

I am not that familiar with this organization and I never expended the time to follow what exactly happened in terms of THE ABUSE — I had enough dealing with just the overall spree of criminality by Catholic clerics against kids.
But, I do know that at its core this is supposed to be a good, committed organization — though I personally can’t vouch for it.
This graphic that I have used quite a bit over the last few weeks was sent to me, unsolicited, by a member of this organization. So …

This looks like fun. The nearest we will be getting to ‘Mardi Gras’ this year — not that we have ever done ‘Mardi Gras‘ (as yet). A lot going on and lots of great shows around. So I haven’t fully made up my mind about this as yet. It is general admission so I don’t have to worry about getting tickets early to live up to the kid’s expectation of me that I get the ‘best seats’.
But, I wanted to make sure that YOU knew about it. Lots of good shows coming to the ‘Capitol Center‘. I am happy and impressed. It is a nice place.
