New Year Resolution For 2014 — Ditto As 2013, Not For I, But For YOU. Befriend YOUR Brain And Life Will Be Good.
.by Anura Guruge
I did, for the first time in years, make one though! I am going to, yet again, personally feed birds (no, no, no … the feathered variety). I already started. Bought some birdseed at Lowe’s yesterday. To Teischan’s delight we already have quite a few birds. I used to feed birds, squirrels and chipmunks (and we will not talk about me putting honey out for bears). Kind of got out of the habit. But, I miss having LOTS of birds around. So that is my 2014 New Year resolution.
I think I did OK in 2013. I lost 30 pounds without trying and published 9 books. Of course, I could have done better and I feel that I failed BECAUSE I missed publishing 10! I am 82% done on the next book. I could have tried to get it done but I gave up. I, think, I also had 400,000(+) hits on my 4 main blogs this year. But, above all, I was happy, invariably had a grin on my face and enjoyed every day of the year. Thank you, brain. You are a good friend.
But, IF you didn’t befriend YOUR brain last year,
do it this year.
Life will never be the same again for YOU.
Life is so much better when your brain is on your side.
I will confess that I din’t pay as much attention to my brain in 2013 as I normally do. I was aware of that. Yes, there was some complacency, but my brain knew that. It was a kind of truce. We have been friends for so long that it cuts me slack on occasion — and 2013 was one of those. It knew I was busy. Funny that. It knows everything about me. Yes, I worked it overtime in 2013. But, we are OK.
Now it is YOUR turn. Screw Facebook (though I am Facebook shareholder, but not a subscriber). Talk to your brain. Ask your brain how it is doing?
Happy New Year.
Enjoy Having Your Brain As A Friend — Your Best Friend.

As a profession (and rather successful) ‘Pope Watcher‘ I knew this was going to happen.
Kind of in the same league as Francis and his gold pallium pins — when he keeps on harping on about charity.
The problem, that so many,
especially the clowns in the media,
haven’t worked out is that this Pope is CONSERVATIVE!
He had to be, to be created a cardinal by John Paul II (#265).
Under John Paul II & Benedict XVI (#266)
had to sign an OATH confirming that they are
bona fide traditionalists.
He is not going to change the Catholic wide-stance on gay folks, abortion, contraception, women priest, clerical celibacy etc. etc. He just likes to talk a good game. BIG DIFFERENCE.
This is why I did this post for you. Pope’s talk about inclusiveness does NOT change Catholic doctrine.
The other problem, and I have written about that … is that this pope is very careless, intentionally or otherwise, in what he says. He basically blurts out stuff without thinking about what he is saying. This is not good.
During the last 4 months I have been doing a crazy amount of research on Pope John XXIII (#262) since I am writing a book on him. Superficially there are a lot of similarities between Francis and John XXIII. But, John NEVER said anything that he did NOT mean 100%. That is key. John was a very intriguing person. Though of dirt-poor, farming peasant stock, he was extraordinarily astute and clever — in a very street-smart way. He rarely, if ever, put a foot wrong and I have yet to really see an example of ‘foot in mouth’. Not so with Francis. He is a loose cannon.
His ‘horror’ at same sex adoption is going to rattle the LGBT community — as it should. They misread him.
This is going to be an ongoing problem.
This pope has created false expectations
— intentionally, or otherwise.
It will be an interesting 2014.
Happy New Year.

I could be wrong, but I can’t get any sound from this. I thought that clicking the speakers …
Plus, other than the dancing, can’t get it to do anything else.
Come on Google. YOU can do better.
I want a singing and dancing one TOMORROW.
That is an ORDER. OK?

KIA U.S.A. Again Displays Its Stupidity Post Lying About Mileage — Now It Won’t Let You Lease A Sedona Van.
by Anura Guruge
>> Hyundai & Kia Get Caught Overstating Expected Mileage.
>> Oh, Oh! … — Nov. 2, 2012.
>> KIA updated milage — post flap — Nov. 3, 2012.
++++ Search ‘KIA’ for other posts, good ones about dealership >>>>
I went to Team KIA, Concord, N.H., this afternoon to lease a Sedona van.
I had called them up on Saturday and told them I was coming.
When I get there they tell me that KIA U.S.
does not lease Sedonas.
You have to buy them outright.
That is STUPID.
Another example of KIA just not understanding what it takes to do business in the U.S.A.
They were STUPID to lie about their mileage … and then get caught.
By the way, they have yet to pay us the supposed rebate. So they lied about that too. Must be how they do business in Korea.
When I was a consultant I did a ton of work c. 1994 – 1995 for a Chicago leasing company. Father and son. Father had set up the company nearly 30 years ago. They were extremely successful, loaded and very generous. 95% of all of my business meeting with them were in very exclusive and expensive restaurants and clubs in and around Chicago. Until I started working for them I never realized that Hotels have secret, hidden away private clubs. You could stay at the hotel and never know that there was a huge club that you entered via a hidden door. Well, they taught me a lot about leasing. The father would say, repeatedly: ‘as long as something has a residual value that can be determine, you can lease it’. They leased Rolexs and sail boats — in addition to cars, trailers, planes and high-end IT equipment.
I remember that a few years ago Hyundai and KIA didn’t do leasing at all.
Now that they do, to say that they don’t lease certain models is stupid.
Yes, I lease a KIA Sportage.
I like leasing. We don’t do that much milage. We don’t commute. We have two cars. No the Sportage we average 750 miles/month. So leasing is great for me. Hand it in at the end of 3 years and get a new car.
Bloody KIA. I sent them one of my polite e-mails.
Another way to interpret their reluctance to lease a Sedona is to assume that it is a piece of junk with NO RESIDUAL value after 3 years. That would make sense. If after 3 years it is worth nothing then leasing does not make sense to the lessee. So that must be it. The KIA Sedona is worthless after 3 years. That is what KIA is saying.
Now I will have to lease a van from Nissan or Chrysler.
I like Team KIA. They were 100% upfront when we leased the Sportage. That is why I was going to get another KIA. Well screw them.
