My Early Christmas Present To YOU: “King Is Born” From ‘Christmas At Luther 2012’, By The Incomparable Luther College Norsemen.

This will make YOUR week
and possibly weak at the knees!
Indubitably the best Christmas music show on TV in 2012.
I had it on my DISH DVR as protected and watched bits of it daily.
The Luther College Norsemen were my favorites.
This guy … WOW.
I have a son who must be roughly his age.
I think of that.
I am very proud of my intellectually bestriding son.
This guys parents must be so, so proud of him.
Luther College, of course, is doing their annual Christmas shows.
What I can’t determine is whether PBS will show us the 2013 show or even repeat the 2012 performance.
Till then PLEASE enjoy this.
It is my early Christmas Present to YOU ALL.
Latest On Comet ISON (Dec. 2): Survived Perihelion On Nov. 28, Severely Compromised — BUT Has Now Disintegrated Further.
…by Anura Guruge
**** Scroll down or do search, MULTIPLE ISON posts a day November 28 & November 29 ****
Comet ISON will NOT be naked eye visible!
It is basically toast now — or at least but a cloud of debris and dust.
A portion of the nucleus survived perihelion.
That is beyond debate or doubt.
The NASA images show that clearly.
But the Sun’s radiation and the torque on the fragile,
brittle, icy body
as it rounded the Sun, 700,000 miles above its surface,
travelling at 60 miles per second,
was too much.
Lots of it got broken off and sublimated — i.e., zapped, ‘evaporated’ from solid to gas.
The remnant that survived was obviously not stable.
It was most likely fractured.
None of this is NEW.
We have seen all of this before with other comets.
I talked about all of these scenarios in my Comet ISON books.
But, ISON is now basically dust.
We might get a spectacular meteor shower from it in January 2014 (and in years to come).
This Blog, My ‘nhlife.wordpress.com’, My Personal Eclectic Musings On The Thousands Of Things That Interest Me Crosses 200,000 Hit Mark.
by Anura Guruge
Check ‘Blog Stats’ on sidebar >>>>>
This is all time … including last year which is when I started posting on this blog.
Of the 200,000+ hits, 165,800 are just from this year.
29,370 just from November 2013.
And to think that some people think that I only get hits from Alton!
But, this is NOT, of course, my only blog.
I own at least 20 … and I am afraid to count.
For the last 19 months this has been my the blog that I spend most time on.
But, my ‘Popes-and-Papacy‘ blog is by far the one that gets most traffic.
That has had 229,803 views for the year.
Since its inception in 2010 it has had 620,179 hits!
And I had a TypePad version of it prior to that … which I deleted one day in a fit of pique.
My ‘Windows 7’ blog, which has been dormant since 2010, has had 194,143 hits.
My ‘Papam’ blog, which I haven’t touched since March this year, is at 187,149.
So lets add it all up:
nhlife = 200,104
Popes-and-Papacy = 620,179
Windows 7 = 194,143
Papam = 187,149
And I have at least 4 other blogs that I could use to
bolster this count.
But, I won’t.
It doesn’t matter.
Has NOT made me rich or famous — as Deanna points out near daily.
But, it amuses me and that is all that matters.
One person, without any help, and without spending a dime on marketing,
1 million hits
spanning popes, Windows 7, astronomy, N.H., Alton, trains, brains,
red wine, restaurants, Poppy Day and sex …
Emergency, SOS, Condom Delivery — BIGGEST Market For (Amazon) Drone Delivery: Mark My Word. THE NEXT BIG THING.
.by Anura Guruge
Think about it.
My all time favorite word
(same as that of Thomas J. Watson, Sr.):
What is the one thing that a man will pay and arm and a leg for instant gratification …
Immediate access to a condom in a pinch.
No, I am not here talking from experience. Never had to. I have THE gift of the gab!
[Durex is British and I have a lovely Durex-related story. Not about condoms per se
but about the ‘London Rubber Company’ that makes Durex.
I knew the wife of a ‘London Rubber Company’
BUT had no idea that they made Durex! I thought they made tires.
She used to ask me to take my pants down! Honest.
She was a private, high end physiotherapist
(who did it for the fun)
and I, with private insurance, was prone to
groin strains from too much cricket. HONEST.]
Though it has NOT made me rich I am good at coming up with BIG ideas way, way ahead of their time.
I did, while working for IBM (U.K.), invent (to my now DREAD), the every so annoying ‘serial number’ based software validation method!
Yes, that was me in 1978 — 3 years ahead of the PC.
Here is the PROOF. It is all there … in print and at the U.S. Patents office.
Two other BIG ideas way ahead of their time … though they are now everyday items:
1/ Atomic clock-based wristwatches — way back in 1976 (yes, while at IBM).
2/ Computerized Scrabble — in 1978 for my Master’s dissertation, BUT I was foiled BECAUSE we didn’t have GOOD computer-based dictionaries.
Mark my word.
Amazon or somebody else will make BILLIONS
with Drone delivered condoms — ordered from
an APP that automatically provides the GPS coordinates.
It is beautiful. It can be delivered to a parked car or a boat.
They can have premium pricing.
$35 more if you want it in the next 15 minutes.
You can even air drop it.
Yes, I know ….
I have been told it all my life …
What can I say.
It is the cross that I carry, lightly.
Deadly Train Derailment In The Bronx. Train Was Being PUSHED By Locomotive, Not Pulled. End of Story! Explains Everything.
.by Anura Guruge
I don’t have the time to go into this in detail BUT I have been a train buff all my life — more so at times than others.
I have even driven actual passenger trains pulled by Canadian diesel engines!
That I have a fairly large collection of train books will attest to this interest because I only collect books on fields that I follow …
A train being PUSHED from the back, especially when negotiating a sharp bend,
is NEVER as stable, and as such safe,
as a train being PULLED from the front.
Push-Pull commuter trains is a peculiar, COST CUTTING U.S. operational mode.
When I first saw it in the U.S. I was horrified. Aghast!
It is basic intuitive physics. Try it.
Why do we invariably PULL heavy things. The stability.
This train that derailed would have had a BETTER CHANCE of staying upright if it was being pulled.
Why do they do it. COST SAVINGS.
Commuter trains. Go from A to B and back to A again.
Ideally you have a double track system with switching so that the engine can be moved from front-to-back so to speak so that on the way back it is also still pulling.
Or, as they do in other countries you use TWO power units (locomotives) — one at the front, one at the back. Then you always have one unit PULLING the train.
In the U.S., with the mania for cost savings, they don’t do either.
They PULL the train one way and they PUSH it the way back.
Then you get derailments like this.
Mark my words. I do know about this stuff.
NTSB, aware of the economic impact, will FUDGE their report.
They know that they can’t ban this type of operation.
A few deaths, every few years, is worth it per their calculations.
