Our Little Ad For The ‘Christmas in France’ Clearlakes Chorale Christmas 2013 Concert.
.by Anura Guruge
Though I don’t speak any French, it being hard enough for me to manage my poor English, given that my mother tongue is Sinhalese, I have 18 years of exposure to Paris — having lived there (and gone to school there) September 1968 to August 1969. My adoptive parents then lived there again for 17 years from 1985 to 1992.
So I couldn’t resist doing a Paris themed little ad. for the 2013 ‘Christmas in France‘ program.
I love de l’Étoile with its magnificent Arc de Triomphe. Negotiating the Étoile, then with about 4 lanes of traffic, was a challenge — but fun, especially with France’s idiosyncratic ‘automatic right-of-way for those merging from the right’ law. I used to drive around the Étoile just for the heck of it. The sheer adrenaline of it.
I also use to run around it at all times of the day and night. It was about 1.5 miles from where I used to stay. So it was an easy run and back — especially since, those days, unlike now, I used ti run 7 miles, 6 days a week.
So, hence the Arc in the background.
