P1020494resizedWe typically have two Loons at our end of the lake.

Two years ago we had a nest but the eggs did not hatch.

Last year I think we saw three Loons together, often.

This is the most we have seen on Halfmoon.

I have seen a picture of 37 Loons on Meredith Bay, Winnepesaukee taken from what was my old house on Mile Point.

But, Halfmoon is not the BIG Lake.

Devanee first thought they were ducks. They never came close to the beach. In past years they have come very close to swimmers and to me when I was on my Standup Paddle Board. These stayed well towards the middle.

We didn’t have a camera with us. So I had to dash back to the house, in the van, in my wet swimming trunks (given that I had gone swimming), to get the camera. The Loons had swum further out. But, Devanee kept track where they were.

The rest was the amazing 20x zoom on Deanna’s Panasonic Lumix. It is pretty amazing.

We will have to keep an eye on this group. I might even drop a line to the Loon Society. I have corresponded with them in the past.
