The six Loons were in the evening around 6 pm.

We started the day with Turkeys, with young, in the yard.

Though we do have quite a few Turkeys on Prospect Mountain Road (which we live off), this is the first time we have seen Turkeys in our yard. Deanna snapped the pictures.

That we have a neighbor that puts out several pounds of grain a day, year round, for the birds help.

We see large flocks of Turkeys in fall and winter coming for the fill.

I have seen a lot of Turkeys on my run up Prospect Mountain this year. Saw two more today. Maya likes to try and play with them. They refuse to cooperate to Maya’s chagrin.

P1020494resizedWe typically have two Loons at our end of the lake.

Two years ago we had a nest but the eggs did not hatch.

Last year I think we saw three Loons together, often.

This is the most we have seen on Halfmoon.

I have seen a picture of 37 Loons on Meredith Bay, Winnepesaukee taken from what was my old house on Mile Point.

But, Halfmoon is not the BIG Lake.

Devanee first thought they were ducks. They never came close to the beach. In past years they have come very close to swimmers and to me when I was on my Standup Paddle Board. These stayed well towards the middle.

We didn’t have a camera with us. So I had to dash back to the house, in the van, in my wet swimming trunks (given that I had gone swimming), to get the camera. The Loons had swum further out. But, Devanee kept track where they were.

The rest was the amazing 20x zoom on Deanna’s Panasonic Lumix. It is pretty amazing.

We will have to keep an eye on this group. I might even drop a line to the Loon Society. I have corresponded with them in the past.

So this is the second time in 2013 that I have had an Amazon #1 Best Seller — last time exactly a month ago with my Comet ISON book. That time around I had cut the price of the book from $3.99 to 99 cents. This time around, with ‘Comets: 101 Facts & Trivia‘, a 99 cent book, I am giving it away for free — for 5 days.

Amazing. People won’t buy it for 99 cents but will take it if it is free. To be honest I am just happy that people are taking it. I don’t make any money from these books and royalties on 99 cents aren’t enough to even buy a cup of coffee. I am not sure if there is anything that you can buy these days for 37 cents — or at least something that I would want, given that I don’t eat candy or cakes.

But, it is fun.
