At the 4 hour 20 minute ACS School Board WORKSHOP on Thursday, August 8, 2013, all of the heavy lifting to do with plans for building renovation, vision for ACS etc. etc. were delegated to a 22 person Strategic Plans Committee.
With the Boards approval the Superintendent, Mr. Bill Lander, got $3,000 to hire a Dr. Jean Richards to mediate this Committee with the first kick-off meeting, a full-day gala, scheduled for Friday, August 23, 2013.
Two School Board members, one of them, Steve Miller, was co-opted onto this Committee. The other 20 were going to be volunteers from the community. Deanna volunteered on the spot to get the ball rolling. I was asked but politely declined since I really detest Committees, get bored and then start mischief making. So they still had to find 19 volunteers in roughly 2 weeks.
Steve Parker, of marina fame, told me he was asked but he couldn’t make a full-day meeting as he is too busy during the Summer.
Mr. Lander was quite bullish that he would be able to field a full 22 person committee on the 23rd.
We heard at yesterday’s Board Meeting that Friday’s kickoff meeting has been cancelled because they couldn’t get enough participants. Surprise, surprise. Deanna was kind of pleased since we have to pick up Devanee from her 12-day camp and she would have had to miss that if the meeting was on. Teischan and I were going go pick her up. Now we can all go.
While getting material ready for this post I discovered something interesting about the hired mediator. I have e-mailed Mr. Lander and two School Board members for clarification. Once I hear from them I will share it with you all.
