In their excitement to break the news the media is losing sight of two key points.
First: Appointment is as of October 15, 2013; not immediate.
Second: Only a CARDINAL can be Secretary of State, Holy See. Pietro Parolin is not a cardinal as yet — though now a cardinalate is guaranteed. ‘Pro-‘, in Latin, means ‘acting’. So until he becomes a cardinal his official title is Pro-. This is true for the heads of nearly all of the important curial dicasteries. You have to be a cardinal in order to officially head them. If not, you can still hold the office, but not the title!
That it is ‘Pro-‘ is not a problem. Quite a few Secretaries of State started off as Pro-, including the current Dean of the College, the holder of three Roman titles (churches), Angelo Sodano.
What is funny is that just yesterday I started thinking about cardinalabili and the next consistory now that my work on comets was coming to an end. November has traditionally been popular for consistories. A November consistory would work. But, then again Pope Francis, not that interested in tradition, might take my recommendation and just have a micro-consistory and just create Parolin.
I, a confirmed pedant, especially when it comes to papal history, just wanted to make sure that we all had the facts right.
I am, of course, sorry to see the departure of ‘my man’, My Lord, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, who in my opinion (and I do follow curial politics better than most) was an outstanding Secretary of State. Thank YOU, Lord Bertone for all of your wonderful work, non-stop inspiration and for being a good and decent human being.

Saw this on national news this morning.
Wow. This is pretty close to home.
Luckily nobody was hurt which amazes me because DD’s always seem to be very full.

This was the first Comet ISON book I published, as an eBook,
in April of this year.
At that point I said I will try and get it out as a paperback closer
to the time of the comet’s ETA.
That I have now done.
All 4 of my comets books are now available both in paperback
and eBook form.
Check the sidebar >>>>.
Second paperback I published in the month of August
and the fifth overall in 2013.
Putting this into paperback was a fair amount of work.
In future I think I am going to do the paperback versions first.
Converting from tightly formatted paperback form to
no-format, free-flowing eBook form is easier than the
other way around. But, with the ISON books,
with the comet still hurtling towards us
I wanted to get the eBooks out ASAP.
Well it is done.
Since I am a glutton for punishment I will update the ISON Quick Reference over the next few days.
Then I am done with ISON and astronomy for awhile.
Back to popes. I have promised a lot of folks that I will do
another pope book.

Given that they made the boast in mid-April 2013 that they were going to compensate those of us who got screwed with this ‘sucker’ check and I had wondered when they would get around to making good on this promise.
Well I got the damn check on Monday. There is no way that I will give these clowns the satisfaction of cashing this check.
As I had warned you in my April post this check, as you can see in clause 3) above in the second image has a waiver. You cash it and they are off the hook.
I don’t know if there is a ‘hook’ or whether there will ever be a ‘hook’ BUT for $9.50 I am not going to relinquish the satisfaction of being able to go after these folks for reneging on their contact and causing me additional work.
So, unless you are really desperate, and if so I fully understand, don’t cash this check.

We were at the ‘Back to School’ night, last night. We met and spoke with Mrs. Leggett, Bill Lander, the Asst. Principal et. al. They NEVER mentioned this.
Would it have been that hard to have a poster up or make a PA announcement?
Well, they managed to get Deanna mad.
