We went to Boston at the crack of dawn this morning to meet some Sri Lankan folks from Maryland, including a ‘cousin’ and his family, who wanted to tour Boston on their way back home from Acadia National Park in Maine.

One of the ladies, like so many female Sri Lankans in the U.S., was a Montessori teacher. She was anxious to see the ‘First Public School‘ site. I was not familiar with it. Like so many locals my familiarity with Boston’s famed Freedom Trail didn’t extend much beyond ‘Faneuil Hall‘ and the ‘Old State House‘. But, of course, it was easy enough to find on the Web.

After doing the obligatory State House, Faneuil, Quincy, Aquarium, Waterfront we wended to the location. Was easy enough to find. Just a few blocks over from the ‘Old State House’.

She was disappointed. She thought that the building would be still standing or that at least there would be a replica. Alas, no. Just an easy-to-miss plaque on the wall and the lovely mosaic inlaid into the sidewalk. But, it was worth it.

If you are by the State House walk the extra 400 yards to see the site. You can then tick it off the secondary bucket list.

Lets not beat around the bush. They, viz. the ‘Country Mile‘, were good. Probably very good, or very close to that. We were impressed.

Last week, with the Beatles Tribute Band both Deanna and I thought that they were just ‘OK’. Yesterday, June 20, 2013, there was no equivocation. We both thought, very quickly at that, that these folks were good.

They were uncomplicated, very straightforward and ‘workmen’ like — though they had a very hard working female fiddler. They didn’t spend too much time or energy with chatter, banter or trying to parlay with the crowd. They just got on with playing good music for 100 minutes — which is probably what they were contracted to do; 7 to 9 pm with a 20 minute intermission.

They had a compelling, non-stop twangy, very country, rhythm and a pulsating beat. The drummer was good. They had a 5-string bass. That might have made a difference. The lead guitarist sure did his job, very ably.

They didn’t have any original songs. They are a cover band – and don’t make any bones about it. I can see why they are so heavily booked. I would gladly go see them again.

We all lucked out with the weather again. Three Saturdays in a row. It looked a bit iffy even at 6 pm. Deanna checked the radar. There were thunderstorms all around us. I was still willing to take a chance. It is not like we are driving to Dartmouth. If it got rained out we get back in the Kia and come home. But, it was glorious again.

There were, at any given time, at least 3 folks doing what looked like pretty decent line dancing. They loved it and they did put on a good show.

Not as many people as in the prior two weeks. It could have been the weather. It could have been the genre of music. But those that were there sure appeared to have a good time and we were indeed given a good show.

Thank YOU, Wolfeboro — again. Looking forward to next Saturday.

See July 15, 2013 post as to why I have cut back the rants to one or two a day.

#138. During the last two nights I have noticed that scrolling down any of the lists, PLAYLIST or TO DO LIST, has become very jerky and erratic. Yet, another damn irritation.

#139. All the movie channels about 540 (or thereabouts) are getting juggled. I hate this. You get to know a sequence of Channels and these F*kers change it. Can’t even read the GUIDE in that region. Every other line is ‘this channel is being moved … ‘ damn message. Damn DirecTV.

#140. Went to Boston for the day to meet some folks. Would you believe it … what the f*k was following me as I walked the beautiful Boston harbor waterfront. The bloody, damn, F*ing DirecTV bloody blimp flashing annoying bloody messages. It really ruined my afternoon. Bloody blimp. Bloody DirecTV.
