They don’t seem to have a Website. Just a Facebook page.

YouTube video from last year when they were playing in New York. Seems decent enough.

This Saturday’s band on the ongoing Summer program at Cate Park, Wolfeboro.

The season kicked off, with a BIG bang,  last Saturday night
with the ever so much fun
the ‘Blues Brothers the Next Generation’ (BBNG).

BBNG will be a hard act to follow.

I have never heard of this tribute band prior to this.
This morning, i.e., around 1 am, I went looking for them.
They seem decent enough.

We plan to go.
Yet again they are saying P.M. thunderstorms.

We all lucked out last Saturday.
It was picture perfect.
Not sure we will get a repeat.
It has been gray since Monday.
Quite a Summer.

Very impressed with the efforts put on by Wolfeboro.
But, it befits their heritage and legacy as the
‘Oldest Summer Resort in the U. S. of A.’

If we go, I will of course tell you about it …

Part of My “Poppy Day” series on this Blog.

This post, as with other recent related posts, at the behest of  ‘Nancy’,
the lady from Ontario Canada who sent me the original, side on, picture of the ‘Poppy Plaque’ in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

These are items kindly sent to me by Nancy, which I received on Monday.

This is a part of my desk. I happen to have a “Lion’s Club” lion (that I picked up at a yard sale) on my desk since the lion is the symbol of my race — and my mother’s maiden name actually means ‘good lion’. I think you all know that the Ceylon/Sri Lanka flag as a rampant, sword wielding lion on it. There have never been lions in Ceylon! This lion symbolism relates to where we came from … central Asia. The other artifact, ‘glued’ to the bottom of my right-hand monitor is a commemorative medal depicting an ancient Ceylonese ‘moonstone’ used as a step.

A clipping of a recruitment poster that was included with the poppies.

Reasons 96 To 100 Of The 1,001 Reasons I Really, Really HATE DirecTV.

#96. The erratic volume levels that I mentioned in #46 drive me nuts. I had been watching a recorded documentary: “The King’s Speech: Revealed”. I don’t think it was HD. Downstairs on the Genie, with my Philips Dolby sound bar, the volume was ‘OK’, probably because I had it cranked up high. Yesterday morning I wanted to finish watching it upstairs via the Genie Mini and the 27″ Philips HD TV. There was hardly any volume. I had to crank up the TV’s volume to MAX to be able to hear anything!

#97. By coincidence had another volume event downstairs last night. We had been watching “New Year’s Eve” (which was quite good). It was in HD and I had the volume to a level that was comfortable. When the movie was done, I hit stop … and that brought up CNN. The CNN volume (also in HD) was at least twice as loud! I had to scramble for the audio remote to turn down the volume before it woke up the neighbours.

#98. By happenchance I happened to see a DirecTV information clip (and I am not sure how it came up) on how to set the FAVORITES. It is by no way intuitive. No wonder I had struggled to set it up. It really would have been nice if DirecTV gave you a small printed booklet with how to setup all these functions.

#99. Both remotes are possessed. Typically when we go down to watch TV I am a few minutes ahead of Deanna and I turn on the TV & Genie while Deanna settles down. Last night she was already seated next to me when I turned on the TV & Genie. And this was to be a 4-minute wait event. She could not believe it. I showed her how all the buttons were dead. She was amazed. Then about 4 minutes into it everything starts working.

#100. The upstairs remote, for the Genie Mini, is definitely on the blink. More often than not I have to hit a button TWICE before it does anything. Just a few minutes ago, when I tried to turn it off … the volume bar came up, as if I had hit the volume button rather than OFF! Second time — it worked. Very annoying.

I think it is fairly common knowledge that I collect books and I am surrounded by books.

This was a book I picked up last week. It was on a pile of unsorted books on the floor of my study when I saw it on Sunday and started looking through.

It is a beautiful (big), right-to-left book.

The etchings are works of art. I was not familiar with Saul Raskin and had to look him up.

While I collect any and all ‘art books’ and I do have a fairly decent collection of books on Jewish history and culture, I think that this book should be in the possession of somebody who can appreciate and treasure it better than I can. It has Hebrew with English translation. So somebody who can read Hebrew or learning Hebrew might enjoy this.

This book also has a history. The bookplate on the Title Page refers to ‘Esther Prebluda‘ and from what I can see she is rather famous and even has an award with her name.

It was given as a gift, with ‘appreciation and gratefulness‘, in February 1959.

I can’t make  out the names. The recipient might be a ‘Rebard Hasty‘. The gifter was a ‘Sam‘ but I cannot make out his last name.

If you are interested in this book and can get it to somebody who will treasure it contact me. My contact information is on the sidebar. I get a feeling that it should be in synagogue library. The book, given that it is 73 years old, is in wonderful condition as the picture clearly show.

But, I am more than happy to keep it. It will be a nice addition to my art collection. I have not shown it to the kids or Deanna as yet. They will enjoy it. Deanna will probably insist that we keep it.

Yes, there is a copy for sale on eBay, but my copy is in much better shape.
