I Sold My Sony FE 90mm Lens On eBay In Less Than 1 Hour!

It really is getting time for me to get a new camera — in place of my aging Sony a7 II. But, I am still going to wait until late March. No point getting one while it is cold and there is snow on the ground. So, I am willing to wait until Spring. But, I wanted to start getting ready.

Last Summer I sold 6 or 7 of my Sony lenses, Full-Frame & APS-C along with my Sony a6500. I was down to two lenses: this 90mm Prime and my trusty 24-240mm zoom. Now I am just down to the zoom.

I listed the 90mm, on eBay, on a whim on Friday morning. I set a ‘Buy-it-Now’ price at $760. That was a win-win price. I would be happy with it and it would still represent a good deal for the buyer. Well this gentleman, from Texas, figured it out. I had also thrown in two of my six Sony batteries to sweeten the deal. So, it all worked out.

I am HAPPY. I am fairly sure I am now going to get the Canon EOS RP that was announced yesterday. Unlike with the Sony I am not going to get a bunch of lenses. I am going to limit myself to three at most four BUT here is the crazy thing. Canon lenses, compared to Sony, are so affordable that I can get TWO lenses for the price it costs for one Sony. That is the main reason I am switching from Sony. The lenses were way too expensive.

I Took 27,000 Pictures (i.e., Photographs) In 2018!

On January 1st of each year (of late), I create a folder with that year’s name for ALL the pictures I am going to take that year.

So, a year ago I created a ‘2018’ folder on my Drobo RAID storage unit.

Today, I created the ‘2019’ folder. But, before doing that I checked the ‘2018’ folder.

26,625 STORED pictures (i.e., individual files) in 96 folders. I create a folder for each month BY CAMERA! So, in the image above you will see a7 (i.e., Sony a7 II), a6500 (i.e., Sony a6500) and Pixel 2 (my phone).

I took more pictures that this. These are but the ones I kept. I deleted a few hundred more. Just yesterday, after the fireworks, I deleted about 30 that did not make the cut.

So, this comes to 74 pictures a day. That makes sense. Most days I shoot between 25 — 35, but there are days I shoot upwards of 900!

Remember that I also post at least 7 pictures EVERY DAY and I did NOT miss a single day in 2018. That means I have posted, on this blog, at least 2,555 pictures in 2018! Since I invariably post more than 7, most days, the number, in reality, is probably over 3,000 pictures! That is a lot — but it also means I have 23,625 pictures I have NOT share with YOU! That is sobering.

, as has been the case for the last few years, is blooming. Today was cloudy but I set out around 2:30pm to get some pictures. Now that I sold my Sony a6500 and a couple of the E-mount lenses that went with it, I have started, ironically, to use some of the remaining E-mounts on my Full Frame Sony a7 II. That was the case today. I put my Sony 30mm macro on the A7 II. Hence the close ups. It has actually been fun using the E-mounts on the Full Frame.

My Sony a6500 Up For Sale On Facebook Marketplace.

No, I don’t need to sell it, BUT it seems a waste to have it and NOT use it!

Last week’s 5-day trip to Acadia was the tipping point. I took the a6500 with me BUT I never used it once! Given a choice I these days just prefer to use my full-frame Sony a7 II and my Google Pixel 2. It is basically the Pixel 2 that made the Sony a6500 redundant. I got the a6500 to be my COMPACT when taking the a7 II was not practical. But, the Pixel 2 has now become my compact — plus you can take phones to venues that don’t allow cameras!

Hence the decision to TRY and sell it. If I sell it I will use the proceeds to get another lens for my a7 II. That is my biggest impediment. I just do not have ANY good full-frame lenses!

So, that is the logic. Let’s see what transpires. Not the end of the world IF I don’t sell it.
