It was beyond a dream start. A wicket with his 1st ball in IPL! Wow. Doesn’t get any better and it was David Warner’s wicket. Impressive.

Then break the record for the BEST BOWLING figures in the IPL — on debut.

And his mother died less than two months ago. Talk about the ups and downs.

Nice unassuming kid. Looks like a great prospect.

His bowling got some stick in the 2nd match and he didn’t take a wicket. But, then he shone with a bat, getting the winning runs in a mammoth runrace. His team seems to adore him. This is all good.

I am pleased. I like him. Something about him. Reminds me of the young, brooding Andy Roberts — who I knew from his days in Hampshire.

West Indies & England Cricket Teams Wearing Black Armbands To Honor Alzarri Joseph’s Mother.

by Anura Guruge

So for the second Test in a row the players are wearing black armbands. This time for poor, 22-year old Alzarri Joesph’s mother who died ahead of the 3rd day of the 2nd Test between the West Indies and England. I do not know the details. I assume she must have been ill. But, Alzarri did not, from what I saw, show any signs of distress the day before. He bowled quite. I like him. He has potential. This will be a setback. It is a great testament to his character that he continued to play. Him dropping out would have been a bitter blow to the West Indies. I am very proud of him ad this will be remembered for years to come. I wish him well.

Why The England Cricket Team Is Wearing Black Armbands During 1st Test Against Windies.

by Anura Guruge

I, of course, watched the highlights. Good game, so far. Windies did better than I had expected, but, again not surprisingly, caved towards the end. But, a better score than many, including I, would have dared predict.

But, I wasn’t sure as to who the black armbands were for. Had to look it up.

Ruth Strauss. Interesting. I wasn’t that familiar with Andrew, never mind the wife. But, he was a former captain and many of the players must have known both of them. So, it was good that they decided to show their respects.

Could prove to be quite the game. Let’s hope that it lasts at least 4-days.

Sri Lankan Test Trio, Surprisingly, Admit To Conduct Unbecoming Of Cricket.

by Anura Guruge

Lawyers in Sri Lanka must have prevailed BECAUSE these three CLOWNS would have insisted that they did nothing wrong — since at least one of them, Dinesh “I CHEAT” Chandimal, has acted over the last few years as if thinks he is God’s bastard son. Ten years ago, when he was breaking into the scene, he was such a nice and personable kid. Now he is an insufferable dork — who never walks and always questions the umpires. He is BAD for cricket.

Well, Dinesh “I CHEAT” Chandimal, will miss the 3rd Test match against the Windies, starting Saturday, June 23, 2018. That is GREAT news. Following this hearing, with them having confessed to their crime, he will miss at least another couple. That is so, so good for cricket.

There is NOW WAY that these three clowns can refute the charge against them, viz., “conduct contrary to the spirit of the game“. We have it all on video. Them refusing to play and ARGUING, in public, with the umpires and match refree. The coach and the unseemingly obese team manager should be banned from International cricket for LIFE. They were a bloody disgrace. I have not been so annoyed with anything to do with cricket as I was with their moronic tactics — holding up play for 2-hours.

The ICC Officials should have called the match off and given it to the Windies claiming that the stupid Sri Lankans forfeited the match.

So Frigging Mad At Sri Lanka’s Cry-Baby, Unsportsmanlike Test Cricketers: Take The Ball And GO HOME!

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE. Base image from “cricinfo.com”.

That is why the school I attended in London had this very profound saying: “Play the White Man“.

The frigging Sri Lankans, in the 2nd match against the Windies, in St Lucia, were were frigging disgrace. They acted just like brown guys and that irks me because it makes all of us brown guys look bad.

Refusing to PLAY is a heinous crime when it comes to cricket.

I blame the umpires. They should NOT have pandered to these big cry-babies. When they didn’t take the field at the appointed hour the game should have been awarded to the Windies.

They buggers should just take their ball, tampered or otherwise, pack their bloody bags and go back to where they came from.

We do NOT need them.

They are BAD news to cricket.

I hope the ICC ban them for 1,000 years!

Am I mad. Yes. I am frigging mad.

I hate to see MY CRICKET disrespected.

You know this is why there is an expression: “just not cricket”.

The bloody Sri Lankans definitely did NOT play cricket.

Bunch of cry babies.

Another time they acted up like buffoons.

Sri Lanka’s Constantly ‘Thanking God’ Niroshan Dickwella Is Run Out — Did God Forsake Him!

Another example. Note hand is higher. Closer to grill.

The 1st innings run out. June 8, 2018. From YouTube. youtube.com/watch?v=p-ZtuDHnhsY

Yes, of course, a lot of cricketers from various countries seek divine help especially when they are batting — and give ‘thanks’ — with eyes pointing up — when they reach a meaningful milestone.

Sri Lanka’s obviously Christian Niroshan Dickwella (from Sri Lanka’s 10% Christian minority) has taken this to ridiculous extremes.

When he is batting he is INCESSANTLY ‘crossing’ himself. Yes, some players do that once when they first come in … Not, Dickwella. He is crossing himself every few minutes. He kind of gets distracting and obnoxious.

But, we cricketers are a superstitious lot and I will indulge Dickwella in his giving thanks to God — so blatantly and constantly.

What puzzles me is how he reconciles his faith and trust in God when he gets out — especially this run out, on Day 3 (June 8, 2018) of the 1st Test against the Windies. It was pretty stupid. He was strolling oblivious that Braithwaite was going to take a shy at the stumps. Now God could have saved him. But, God forsook him! What does he do then? You don’t see him crossing himself when he gets out (or drops a catch).

That is my dilema. How does he rationalize his failures?

He also got suspended by the ICC for two ODI matches. God didn’t bail him out. But, he seems to ignore these let downs. Strange. Very strange.
