Netflix “The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind” (2019) Movie — Inspiring & Invigorating, With A New Hampshire Connection To Boo.
Quite the story. Netflix had been trying to get me to watch it for weeks. But, I kept on ignoring the suggestion thinking that it would be trite — a glorified documentary. I was wrong. It proved to be QUITE the movie. Extremely inspirational. Wow. Talk about grit & graft to overcome adversity.
Also made me realized, acutely, that even though I grew up in a third-world country, I have NEVER had to face or experience long-term hunger, let alone starvation. Seeing a pet dog die of malnutrition is distressing.
I loved this movie. Knew it was a true-story. Not 100% sure whether he really used a bicycle dynamo as his first generator. I remember those dynamos from MY youth 50-years ago. Rugged & reliable but I do not think they produce that much power.
Yes, another “thinking-person’s” movie. In the end it is definitely a feel-good movie. Well, the title tells it all — & it is set in a poor African country. That is all you need to know in order to decide whether this might be YOUR kind of movie. I hope it is.
Thank YOU, Netflix.
This is not a easy-to-watch movie. It is dark & disturbing. But, it makes you sit-up & take notice; makes you think. Wow. Man’s inhumanity to man! It is disturbing particularly if you, like I, happen to be non-white.
Also makes you appreciate & glad that we have come a long way in the last 60-years BUT there is so much further to go.
Very topical even as Derek Chauvin’s case for murdering George Floyd airs on TV every day.
This is not a movie for thinking, mature, caring adults. Though I guess some might watch it just to enjoy seeing blacks brutalized! Shame. Wow.
Definitely class it a #BLM movie.
If you are really, totally into #BLM please watch this movie. It will confirm your convictions.
Thank YOU, Netflix.
Netflix “Loving” (2016) Movie — Riveting, True-Life Story As To How Interracial Marriage Became Legal In The U.S.
It was a Netflix recommendation — & a damn good one at that.
Interracial marriage is close to home for I.
I have, all my adult life, taken it for granted. Never given it ANY thought. I can’t imagine what it would have been like to find/know that it was illegal & you could end up serving 25-years in prison.
Well, that is what this movie is ALL about. WOW. True story. All of it. I did NOT know that till I started watching. I just thought that it was a rather ‘cute’, but ‘trite’, title. ‘Loving‘. WOW.
What a country.
PLEASE watch. Good movie, educational & thought-provoking.
Thank YOU, Netflix.
Netflix “Rose Island” (2020) Movie — Funny & Looks Way Over The Top Until You Realize That It Is, Incredibly, A True Story!
Though I was living in Paris (i.e., not that far away) when this, i.e., ‘Rose Island‘ happened, I do NOT recall hearing about. But, I was all of 15, wasn’t that interested in news & had other, more pressing things on my mind. When I first saw the Netflix trailer I assumed that it was all made up. Quite the story. Funny etc. Then I realized that it is (nearly) all TRUE! Wow. How amazing. Incredible. I wish the movie provided more information as to how he, i.e., ‘Mr. Rose’, the engineer, built it. Could not have been easy.
Very entertaining. Easy to watch.
As with ‘A Fortunate Man‘ it has to have been dubbed because it was NOT made in English & the leading characters are mainly Italian. The dubbing is top-notch. It fooled me (but, usually that is NOT hard to do).
I definitely recommend this movie. Enjoy.
Best series I have watched on BritBox,
& I have watched a LOT!
Amazing. It would have been an amazing story IF it had been invented. But, that this is ALL TRUE & it happened makes it just so, so, riveting.
Towards the end I was riveted. Time be damned. I had to watch. I had to know what happened.
I can’t recommend this any higher than saying it is BLINKING BRILLIANT. Wow. I am still moved. Yes, I gather there is even a book now. But, alas, I know how it ends.
Please try & watch. You will thank me. Of that, I am sure. SMILE.
Happen to see it while scrolling through Amazon Video. Looked promising. It proved to be much more than better. One of the better movies we had seen in awhile. Very captivating and some great, Elvis-type songs.
This movie is very clever. It keeps on trying to make you believe that it is based on a true story. But then the actor who plays the identical twins is an Elvis impersonator — with all the Elvis moves. To compound matters the music is very similar to that of Elvis. So, you start to think … is this really about Elvis and did Elvis actually have a twin brother! Then there is a twist in that Elvis gets mentioned.
Good movie. Easy to watch. We enjoyed it. Yes, recommended by us.
The MUST WATCH trailer on YouTube.
We were going to watch Season 1 of the PBS “Victoria” on Amazon Prime when I saw this. We had seen the trailer earlier in the year and had DEFINITELY wanted to see it. So, without hesitation, I rented it, in HD format (for the customary 48-hours) for $5.99 from Amazon. I am so glad that I did. It was excellent.
Loved it. Incredibly funny. Touchingly cute. And as we British would contend, “warms the cockles of your heart“.
It said at the start that it was a “true story — or most of it”. That made it even more special. I have since discovered that it is indeed so, though the movie, no doubt, took some poetic licenses.
Highly, highly recommended. Ideal movie for these days. Reminds you what loyalty and service is all about.
Set us up, nicely, for Season 2 of “Victoria“, on PBS, in January 2018.
