First real snow of this winter. It, to my delight & relief, another Southern Storm. I love Southern Snow Storms. It means those BELOW us get more of the snow. We just got what was a dusting. I took a car out at 9:30. Had to scrape the windshield but the drive — and drive — was fine. Very pretty.

I Went For A Walk In The Snowstorm Last Night & It Was Entrancing.

Part of my latest ‘fitness’ (if you could call it that when it applies to I) regime is walking at night. I was not going to let a ‘little’ snow stop me. It was enchanting. I always feel so privileged and blessed. I live for moments like this. This is peace. This is happiness. Costs me nothing. I don’t need a gym membership. Just some decent boots and crampons on my walking stick. SMILE.

This was around 11pm last night. It had been snowing for about 2 hours. I went out for a walk in the snow — and it was BLAST. Took these pictures on my way out and on the way back. The house is like a BEACON in the dark. SMILE. Enjoy.

Can You Tell Which One Of These Drives Is Hand Shoveled & Which Ones Belong To Snowblower Owners?

by Anura Guruge

Yes, I know it is a bit hard for the uninitiated. But, this was today, just after 11am.

Last night’s snow storm. Wasn’t too bad. 2-hour school delay.

So, have you worked out which is which?

These are adjacent drives, i.e., next door or across the road.

Well, I am sure some of you will work it out.

It started snowing in Alton around 1:30pm.

By 4pm it was coming down at quite a clip. Very pretty.

These pictures were taken between 6 and 7pm. Eventful evening. 6 vehicle accident ‘down the road’ and heavy police presence with flashing blue lights.

It wasn’t too cold. I was out taking pictures — multiple times.

Shoveling starts tomorrow. Hopefully it shouldn’t be too onerous. Bought a new shovel today.

Enjoy. I hear the snow plow go by even as I type this.

I have seen more snow than this, but not in 2012 (as far as I can recall). It was a fair chunk. Well over a foot, more in the wind drifts, e.g., our back deck, and even more where the Alton’s ever friendly snow plow drivers try to bury us in. We are half way up Prospect Mountain, in Alton. Our altitude, above sea level, is about 660′. That makes a big difference. We get a few inches more than the folks who are a few hundred feet lower.

These were taken on Christmas Day 2012 when we had a small amount of snow.

We did get some snow overnight and it continued to snow, albeit in lightly, right through the morning. So we got a real White Christmas this year, though I am not sure whether we got 1″ of snow at the Concord Airport in order for all those “Free, if it snows on Christmas Day” offers to be valid. I will check.

Our yard, Christmas morning 2012, around 7:45 am. Compare with same view from Christmas eve — on prior post. Click to ENLARGE.

Different view. From the steps, looking straight out. It wasn’t that much snow. Yes, we put the Christmas lights on, heck with the electric bill — since we don’t pay the high PSNH rates.

Merry Christmas 2012.
