Garmin Vivoactive 3 GPS Is 100% Accurate Measuring Marathon Run; Others Not So Good.

by Anura Guruge

Click here to access the U.K. “Daily Mail” article.

This article held no surprises for I. I knew the Garmin Vivoactive 3 GPS was pretty accurate. I had clocked it against a car odometer — albeit in the 3.5-mile range, rather than at the marathon distance.

That the Garmin Vivosmart 4 was inaccurate should not be a earth-shattering. It doesn’t have GPS.

That most of the other watches were quite inaccurate too is more of a concern. I owned a Samsung S3 Frontier. That, at the 2-3 mile range, was pretty accurate.

I owned two Vivoactive 3s and a Vivoactive HR prior to that. I then graduated to a Fenix 5 and then to a Fenix 5 Plus. I have checked the GPS on the Fenix 5(+) and have no major issues.

But, this is sobering.

I tested a low-end Fitbit recently and could not believe how inaccurate it was. It was a joke.

The Soon To Be Available Samsung ‘Galaxy Active’ Smartwatch Will Measure Blood Pressure On The Wrist.

by Anura Guruge

Heart rate monitoring is good. A must have and I am not sure I could now live without it.

ECG/EKG is cute, but it doesn’t seem to do much for I since I, to my amazement, appear to have a normal rhythm.

But, on the wrist blood pressure monitoring, with a smartwatch, is HUGE. I have always said I will get a smartwatch that will accurately measure blood pressure. This Samsung Galaxy Active appears to have it ALL for $199. It is crazy. GPS, sleep, AMOLED display, HR and blood pressure.

Now I did own a Samsung Frontier S3 but I didn’t use it much. Ended up selling it — for a decent price. But, the Galaxy Active might be different. Having blood pressure, on my wrist, 24×7, is hard to bypass.

Galaxy Active will NOT be available till March 8, 2019. There are NO reviews of the blood pressure feature as yet. I would like to see a couple of reviews. But, for that price I might just pre-order and if it does not work — return it.

The ‘Radiance A3 Frontier’ Is An INSANELY DISCOUNTED Samsung S3 Frontier — For $50!

by Anura Guruge

Click to access this page. Google it. It appears you can get it from MULTIPLE sites.

Amazon listing from a few minutes ago.

** ** ** UPDATE ** ** **

It appears that this is a SCAM.

Too good to be true. Well glad I didn’t order one (though I was going to do so via PayPal (given their ‘guarantee’)).

You might have seen these Ads too — on Facebook and Instagram. When I first saw it I was immediately struck by its resemblance to the Samsung S3 — given that I owned one for nearly 6-months. I did some research. It has to be a S3 — either deeply discounted by Samsung or being copies.

That the Samsung S3 is still being sold at Amazon for $298 is ALSO CRAZY. It was ~$240 last Christmas when I bought mine. Yes, I had seen the price creep up, BUT now we know that the S4 is due soon.

I can’t find anybody who has bought a Radiance S3. I am tempted to order one. For $50 how can you go wrong? Will make a great Christmas or birthday present.

A New Samsung Gear S4, Even Without ‘BPM’, Would Be V. Bad News For Garmin.

by Anura Guruge

Click image to access original article in the U.K. “Express”. Google “Samsung Gear S4” for many, many more over the last 72-hours.

From the same “Express” article referenced above. Use the link — above.

YouTube video claiming to confirm that the S4 will have
“Blood Pressure Monitoring” (BPM).

The Samsung Gear S3 was a pretty impressive and compelling SMART watch — and I know since I had one till last week (when I sold it on Facebook).

It lacked all of the activity, sleep, performance and stress tracking features to make it into a genuine alternative to a medium- to high-end Garmin. But, it was a decent Smartwatch for those that wanted just the basic activity tracking functionality.

In the last few days there has been a lot of talk in the media about the forthcoming Samsung Gear S4 — which might possibly be called the Samsung Galaxy Watch.

It is supposed to have a lot more activity and sleep features. But, it is also said to go all out on health monitoring, and might include “Blood Pressure Monitoring” (BPM). That would be big.

Some are talking some real fancy features like displays on the rim of the case and on the strap. That might be overkill. But, BPM will be a game changer.

I will keep you post.

I Sold My Samsung S3 Frontier On Facebook For $180 Within 12-Hours.

by Anura Guruge

Click pictures to ENLARGE.

Christmas 2017, a few days after I got it. This was a joke. I never wore two watches … ever!

First time ever I sold anything on Facebook. I wanted to see what it was like. Was not too, too bad. Have the advantage that you can check the respondents profile on Facebook.

Yes, as with Craigslist it started with 4 – 5 ‘crazies’. I could tell that they were ‘scammers’ because they had patently bogus names. I blew them off.

Then I got a message from ‘Steve’ who started off by asking whether I would accept PayPal. That got my antenna up. I will confess I gave him quite a grilling. Then he told me he was a Realtor from Rhode Island. I found him on the Web and called him. He didn’t know I was going to call. He answered. Turned out to be a nice guy. Yes, I am shipping it to him and he graciously paid for the shipping.

I am happy.

I got the Frontier S3 to be my dress watch and act as a backup if my main tracker failed — as had done my first Garmin Vivoactive 3. But, I had not worn it much. Wore it mainly between my second Vivoactive 3 and the Fitbit Ionic and while waiting for my Garmin Fenix 5. In total I must have worn it for less than 5-days.

10-days prior to Christmas 2017, Best Buy DROPPED the price of the S3 by $40. It was, as such, cheaper then than it is now. So, I am quite cool with the price. Of course I have to eat some depreciation, but I am ‘OK’ with that. I wasn’t going to be greedy and try to compete with the 20 or so folks trying to sell S3s for $200 — and have been doing so for weeks. I got full price. {Smile}

Once I got the Fenix 5 I knew that my chances of ever wearing the S3 was close to nil. They are very similar watches, both in size and appearance. Side-by-side they look identical. So, I knew that I should get rid of the S3 and use the money to get a used Garmin. That is what I am going to do.

Bulova’s New ‘TurnStyle’ Watches, With The Rotating ‘Diamond’ Segments, Look Too Gaudy To Be Classy.

by Anura Guruge

As I have mentioned once or twice, I still get an occasional e-mail from Bulova because I once considered getting a CURV to replace my 26-old Rolex I gave to my son.

Since I have a partiality for nice watches I do look at their e-mails just to see what is happening in the market.

This new ‘TurnStyle’ collection did not impress me much. Way too gaudy to be classy. But, that is just my opinion.

I Am Replacing My Cursed Garmin Vivoactive 3 With A Butt Ugly Fitbit Ionic!

by Anura Guruge

I hope I am doing the right thing.

But, after having TWO (2) Garmin Vivoactive 3s fail on me within 3-months I just couldn’t take it. ‘They’ all tell me I should get a Garmin Fenix 5. The Fenix 5 is clunky and does not have a touchscreen.

I have a history with Fitbit and it isn’t good!

But, there is NOTHING else out there, other than the Fitbit IONIC, that comes close to my needs — other than the clunky Fenix 5.

The Ionic is butt ugly. Even uglier than the Garmin Vivoactive HR that I replaced with the ‘3’ because the ‘3’ looks good.

Luckily I have my Samsung S3 Frontier to use as my dress watch.

So, I am done with Garmin for now.

I might be regretting this by Monday!

IF I could just get by till there is a Fenix 6.

Garmin Vivoactive 3 — KNOWN Problem With Barometric Altimeter; I Was The 10th To Report!

by Anura Guruge

My 50-day old Garmin Vivoactive 3 being RETURNED
— via UPS — for good.

I am getting my money back.

I do NOT want another Vivoactive 3.

This was my 2nd. 1st last all of 15-days.

Talked to Garmin Support.

Known problem. I was the 10th to report — on the VA 3.

No fix as yet. Engineering has it on their list.

Their recommendation:
The Garmin Fenix 5 is more robust.

Yes, at double the price.

I have had it with the Garmin Vivoactive 3.

Not getting another one.

Going through TWO (2) in 65-days is enough.

Not sure what to do.

My wrist, however, is NOT naked.

I had got the Samsung S3 Frontier (at Christmas) as a backup, as I had a nasty feeling that the VA 3 was not going to last the course.

So, why don’t I just stick with the S3. It is tad too big and doesn’t continuous Heart Rate monitoring — for a start.

Bulova GRAMMY Edition Watches A Tad Too ‘Clunky’ For My Taste — I Still Prefer The Timeless CURV.

by Anura Guruge

Click picture to ENLARGE.

The CURV

I still get an occasional e-mail from Bulova because I once considered getting a CURV to replace my 26-old Rolex I gave to my son.

But, that was before I got the Fitness Tracker bug and strapped a Garmin (Vivoactive HR then and now a Vivoactive 3) to my wrist — last June. Now the only fancy watch I will consider is the Samsung S3 Frontier that I did treat myself to at Christmas.

Bulova does makes nice watches and they are GOOD VALUE for money.

With GRAMMY Edition they are, of course, trying to make a statement — and if you like bold, brassy watches then one of these will work great for you. Just not my cup of tea.

Syncing & Aggregating Data From My Garmin Vivoactive 3 & Samsung S3 Frontier.

by Anura Guruge

Click to access “FitnessSyncer”.

I still have not started using the Samsung S3 Frontier I got for Christmas on a regular basis to make this an issue, BUT soon I am going to want to combine the data from both my Garmin Vivoactive 3 and the Samsung S3, in one place, so I have an accurate picture of what I did during an entire day. If not, the days I wear the S3 for part of the time will be out-of-place. Garmin Connect and Samsung Health will both claim I did not meet my goals.

I found this APP. I have NOT signed up yet (though it is FREE) because the first review I read said it will not work, AS ADVERTISED, with Garmin Connect and Samsung Health!

So, I need to check it out more.

Just thought I will share with you as I go along. I will keep you posted.
