In 2017 I was not mentally ready to have all the photos I take, on a daily basis, stored offline, in the Cloud.
But, technology, needs and my attitudes do evolve. Having the 1 Gig Internet service, with 400MB uploads, is definitely a factor. Ironically, it was my 3TB Drobo getting jostled around during the 1G installation (on Monday) that got me evaluating my online options again. My Drobo going into ‘Data Protection’ mode for three hours to rebuild its storage image was SCARY. Got me thinking my long-term strategy all over-again. I know that trying to keep my photos local, on the RAID I (i.e., redundant-data/data duplicated) Drobo, is far from ideal. I really need to have the photos stored offline, in the Cloud.
I had looked at Google Drive, Google Photo and even Amazon Photo. There way of storing photos did not meet my needs! I store my pictures in folders per my criteria — NOT just the date on which they were taken. So, when I go on a trip I have a master folder for that trip. Then within that folder I have other folders my day, ‘topic’ AND camera! Yes, I always shoot with at least two cameras and I keep the pictures separate.
So, I need a very flexible folder scheme. OneDrive gives that to I. I tried creating some nested folders and uploading some pictures. Works. It seems viable. I still need to do more research.
I will keep you posted.
Passing Of Microsoft Co-Founder, Paul Allen, At 65, Signifies The End-Of-An-Era; PCs Have Now Reached Old Age.
Wow. This came as a shock. 65. I think that struck a chord. Same age as me but eight-months older.
He always came across as a decent bloke. Nicer than Bill, I think.
It is the END of an era. PCs, Windows and Microsoft are no longer new or ‘recent’. They have all reached old age..
Paul Gardner Allen (1953 – 2018), RIP

I kid you NOT. I would not kid about something this important. I discovered, to my cost, yesterday! Could not believe it. Had ‘autosave’ set — given I am NO mug. But, nothing autosaved. I thought I was cracking up. Started Googling.
This is beyond the pale. Yes, of course, I can tell it to autosave to OneDrive. But, that doesn’t sit well with me — given that the ‘activation’ of OneDrive says that Microsoft will have access to your search data and content.
So, today, I started saving manually.
IMPORTANT, heads up.

For centurial years it is NOT enough to be divisible just by 4. It also has to be divisible by 400. This is was another major improvement to the Gregorian calendar to keep the year lengths as close to 365.242199 days as possible.
So, 1700, 1800, 1900 were NOT LEAP YEARS since they are NOT divisible by 400.
But, 2000 was, because it is divisible by 400.
Excel has 1900 as a LEAP YEAR.
Yes, I am probably the ONLY one in the whole world that would NOTICE and CARE.
But, I do a LOT of date span calculations — example when I am working out ICE-OUTS for lakes. In such calculations, being the pedant I am, I take into account Leap Years. Otherwise you are mistating some date spans.
That is how I noticed.

It went through quite well. I wasn’t sure exactly at what time the DNS was going to get updated and as such was trying to use the new e-mail about 40 minutes too soon. No harm. All went well when the DNS was updated. As far as I can see all my e-mails, including those I sent and received just prior to the cutover, were migrated over.
Yes, after over 12-years of using Workspace e-mail, daily, I have to get used to the new system.
The new e-mail composing editor is a DREAM! Wow, at last the ability to attach multiple documents/pictures in one go and have images inline. It is a modern, full-capability editor. I am so thrilled.
I still don’t know whether this Microsoft system is going to be better when it comes to NOT losing incoming or outgoing messages. I was busy ‘today’ with visitors and haven’t used the e-mail much. But, I will keep you posted.

Do NOT follow the above Microsoft instructions.
At least on Windows 7.
It will automatically result in ALL Office 360/2016 apps, i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc. being removed from your computer — without you being asked or told.
It is not funny.
It is bloody diabolical.
Satya Nadella is such a bloody FRAUD.
Another scheming, money-grabbing FAKIR of the worst type,
with no shame.
I hate Microsoft.
