It has been a few weeks since she first put up the lights and this year, for the first time really, we have competition! That will not do. So, I got her more lights. So, she put those up. we are not done jet. The coup de grâce is yet to come — I think. I have some ideas and Amazon has the goods. SMILE.

House Lit & Decorated For Halloween 2019 — With 6-Weeks To Go!

by Anura Guruge

All Teischan’s work — today, 6-weeks ahead of Halloween, and she is complaining that she was LATE!

Christmas & then Halloween are her two favorite holidays — Easter a distant third and Thanksgiving not even making her radar.

Lights and decorations are her thing. She has been doing the lights on her own. All I have to do is keep her supplied with lights. I got some fancy flame lights for the front door. Upside down flame. Pretty cool.

Given that she put up the Christmas lights on November 19th last year, I assume we will just go from these lights straight to the Christmas ones. The infrastructure with the timers etc. is all in place.

What can I say?

Makes her happy. Keeps her happy.

P.S., I have been informed that she is TOO OLD to go trick or treating this year! Well, I will believe it on the day. This could be the END of OVER 20-years of taking kids trick-or-treating! Yes, over 20-years. 4-kids, widely spaced.

Halloween 2018 In Alton, New Hampshire.

It was a good Halloween. Compared to some past years the weather was pretty close to ideal — dry and in the mid-40Fs. It also didn’t get dark till close to 6pm. In terms of decorations this was probably the best I have seen in Alton. Some folks had gone all out. Thank you.

Funnily enough, I didn’t think it was as busy as prior years. When we were leaving Main St. around 6:15pm, the road was not that busy. Usually it is thronged. But, I am sure everybody had a great time. There was a LOT of candy — though I can honestly say that I did not have even one BITE!

Anura Guruge pirate selfie Halloween 2018

I can identify with being a pirate. So, this was apropos. Saw the hat at a ‘Goodwill’ store some months ago. Teischan thought I should get it. Though it had a hefty price tag of $1.50 I figured I could afford it.

As with the amazing scarecrows, this too was a serendipitous discovery in Chester, New Hampshire, on Sunday, October 28, 2018, on our way to an estate sale.

It is relatively new — i.e., built in 2011. We were in Chester around that time to pick up Maya. Don’t think we noticed it then. Maybe it was still being built.

Very picturesque. Nice job. Another kudos to Chester. Obviously a justifiably proud town. Bravo.

We stumbled upon this extraordinary display of creativity, historicalitybonohime, serendipitously, on our way to an estate sale in Chester, New Hampshire, on Sunday, October 28, 2018.

It was certainly different and worth lingering over. And that we did, on the way back from the sale. We stopped at the Town Center and got out and walked — taking these pictures.

Appears that it is a yearly tradition — and I assume that it is time to coincide with Halloween. How cool. Bravo Chester. Kudos Chester. It is a lovely town. We do have an association with the town though I only recalled it when we were driving through. We got Maya, from Chester, in 2011. So, we have an emotional connection with Chester.

Definitely worth going to see, though I suspect, alas, that all the rain we have had over the last few days, including today, would have taken a toll — though the beauty of their design is that they appear to drain well.

Hats off to Chester. Great job. Very clever.

“A Quiet Place” Movie (2018) — Breathtakingly Bad; I Refuse To Stay Quiet About It.

by Anura Guruge

With Halloween nearly upon us, Teischan (12) wanted to see a ‘real’ horror movie. She picked this after having seen trailers for it online. I had never heard of it, but was happy to indulge her — and, furthermore, it was available on Amazon Video for $4.99 (in HD).

Well, she was suitably petrified and as such impressed. But, even SHE noticed some of the blatant flaws in the premise of this story and the plot.

It is just plain unrealistic. Too many holes. Not at all logical. Leaves you very unsatisfied. Shame. They could have done better if they had given the storyline some thought.

Do NOT recommend unless you want to spend 90-minutes watching a totally mindless movie.
