After
(i.e., NEW APP WITH ‘Night Sight’).

I have been meaning to show YOU this comparison for a few days. Never had the time. Made a point of taking these two pictures, from the same place to show YOU the difference.

Pretty impressive right? Pretty amazing.

This was taken outside, at 6:19pm, on Halloween — with no street light, and bare minimum ambient light from a house.

It was PITCH BLACK! I kid you NOT.

Nothing but BLACK.

So, all the green, orange, yellow and blue were ‘caught’ by the APP.

This is amazing.

To get ‘Night Sight’ You Need The Pixel 3 Camera APP (CameraP3).

You will get the ‘NIGHT’ button on the P3 APP.

The ‘Lifehacker‘ instructions for getting the Google Pixel 3 camera APP (above) WORKS.

I used them. They worked.

Some small modifications you can make, if you so wish. You can get to Chrome’s ‘Advanced Settings’ from phone’s SETTINGS → APPs → Chrome → Advanced. I just found that easier.

It is a BIG download. So, it will take some time. Installation was pretty straightforward and easy. There were no ‘gothchas’.

Enjoy.

Thanks ‘lifehack’. (I hope this APP is safe!)

You need to get Ver. 6.1 of the ‘Camera’ App from Google Play.

I read that this ‘Night Sight‘ feature, from Google Pixel 3, had been made available for the Google Pixel 2, this morning, with a brand new update to the Camera App.

I went and downloaded the App. Yes, it was at 6.1 — which was supposed to be the requisite version.

I waited until it was dark to try it out.

IT IS SCARY.

The last 2 pictures, above, were taken in DARKNESS. I could NOT see the lighthouse or Buzz. I kid you not. The first picture had some reflected light from my PC monitors. No other lights in the room. This is AMAZING.

I am going to try this out further.

The Google Pixel 2 Camera APP has NO manual controls whatsoever! I kid you not.

Google believes that the APPs AI-based workings is far superior to what a human can achieve. That could very well be the case.

But, I miss not having any MANUAL control over focus.

‘Camera FV’ is brilliant on this score. Has a very easy to use MF mode along with Focus Assist magnification. To me that is THE BIGGIE. Changing ISO etc. is nice, BUT the Google Pixel 2 has a fixed aperture lens. So, this won’t get me that much.

Being able to change the metering mode, on the fly, however, is nice.

Also, you can ask it to give you digital camera like file IDs. Brilliant. I had struggled with the lack of that daily.
