Yes, the discounts, as has to be the case, is BEST on the more expensive cameras.

I, of course, checked the discount price on the Canon EOS RP kit with the 24-105mm lens. I, with my bundle, still did OK. SMILE. So, no sour-grapes here.

But, check it out. You might find a bargain that calls out to you.

‘Canon EOS RP’ Kit/Bundle I Got From ‘Cardinal Camera’ Via Amazon.

by Anura Guruge

I agnozied about getting a bundle.

In the end I got it ONLY because it was from Cardinal Camera and I have bought cameras and bundles, with success, from them in the past.

All I wanted was the: camera, 24-105mm f/4 L ISM USM lens, the grip and the adapter. The bundle was STILL CHEAPER than these 4 items together and this was the ONLY WAY I could get all 4 as a kit/bundle.

The rest was FLUFF. I relented and kept the 128GB SD card. It is a Class I. I shoot Class 3.

I haven’t tried the flash or the spare battery. It charged, but I haven’t put it in the camera.

I gave most it to the 18-year old daughter who has my old Canon T3i.

I am fussy about what I use with my camera.

The 4 items I needed. The rest was FREE and fluff.

The whole bundle. Impressive.

The Canon EOS RP body.

With the grip attached.

Comes with NO instructions. The original door has to be removed. I had to work it out. You can see it in front.

The grip definitely helps. Too small without it. Should be STANDARD.

The MOST important bits. My wrist straps. I do NOT use a neck strap. Getting these on was the hardest part.

With the ‘Expert Shield’ screen protector. Worked like a CHARM the second time around. No wonder they send you TWO.

With the Canon RF 24 – 105mm f/4 L IS USM lens attached.

The Sony Full-Frame FE 28-70mm (F/3.5-5.6) Zoom Is A Truly Dreadful Lens!

by Anura Guruge

Amazon listing — but AVOID like the plague.

I Traded In mine with Amazon, on August 17, 2017.

a very soft image with Sony FE 28-70mm zoom lens Anura Guruge Sony a7II

I got this kit lens, as a kit lens within a BUNDLE when I bought my Sony a7 II, from Cameta Camera, on May 10, 2017 (via Amazon).

I was familiar with the limitations of kit lenses and had read the reviews on this.

At $348 it is a CHEAP lens and that is exactly what it is. As I always do, I used an Excel Spreadsheet to price out all of my a7 II buying options … individually, in kit form and as bundles. The Cameta bundle was such that I was getting this kit lens for about $150. So, I knew that I could trade-it in and essentially be ‘quids in’ (as we say in in Britain).

It is a marginally OK lens and will occasionally take satisfying picture (or two). But, the autofocus (AF) HUNTS a lot, indoor colors have an strange tint and the lens, overall, tends to be soft.

Yes, I got Sony FE 24-240 (f/3.5-6.3) at the same time as the bundle BECAUSE I knew I needed as much reach as I could get. So, that made the 28-70mm kind of superfluous to requirements, though I had hoped that I might be able to use the smaller, MUCH LIGHTER lens when using the a7 II indoors. That never worked out. I do like the 24-240 though it also tends to be SOFT. AF, however, is much, much better.

So, just a heads up. You get what you pay for and as such the 28-70 is a cheap (and on the main nasty) lens. Sorry.

HUGE Up To $550 Discounts By Canon On Digital Cameras — Check It Out.

If I was still in the market for a Canon, and the only Canon that even vaguely appeals to me these days being the G5 X, I would be all over this — though interestingly (and logically) the G5 X, being rather hot, is not being discounted. Some great values here. The 7D Mk II bundle and the M3 with EVF & 18-55 mm look real good — and, I just checked, these prices are ALREADY reflected at Amazon.

Well, what I said had to be said. The bundle, indubitably, is good value for money. I would NOT have got it, after all the months of research, if it was not. But you just need to be aware.

So far, so good with the camera. Here are 4 more images from the camera — DRAMATICALLY resized in terms of image size. The originals of these, in V.Fine quality, generate JPEG files as big as 18MG! What I am posting are 317KB! So a huge difference in size and hence quality!

First FOUR Full-Size and hence LARGE.

The Sony a77 II, ordered through Amazon BUT fulfilled (i.e., shipped) by ‘Cameta Camera‘ arrived today, Friday, August 28, 2015 — albeit with Deanna going to the Post Office to pick it up.

Yes, we have a video of me unpacking it. So far, so good. Everything that Cameta said would be in the box was in the box and THERE is, contrary to what folks (including Cameta) had said, a Sony lens hood for the Sony 16-50mm SSM lens. That was a bonus since this is a $75 hood!

I took my time unpacking and sorting out all the bits. The Sony battery, with the Sony charger, took over 4 hours to fully charge. Instruction manual says 3 BUT maybe it was because it was the first charge. More about the Cameta bundle in another post.

Once I had the battery and my 64GB card (as opposed to the one supplied by Cameta) I felt obliged to snap some pictures.

These were taken WITHOUT ANYTHING being set on the Menus — other than date and time. Just set the Focus Mode Dial to ‘A’. That was all. The pictures shown above were shot on ‘P’ and ‘Auto’. I am reasonably happy. Tomorrow I will customize the camera.

It feels good and I love the illuminated viewfinder.

So far, so good.

I am definitely going to get a Sony a77 II. That is now a foregone conclusion. The plan is to also order it, as a 2-lens bundle, from Amazon BUT fulfilled (i.e., shipped) by ‘Cameta Camera‘.

hoodcap1Given who I am, and the amount of research I have done into my camera purchase (over the last 6 weeks), I had a number of questions about this bundle, e.g., two both lenses come with hoods? NO they don’t. Only one, the Tamaron. The Sony lens does not. Sony sells the hood for $75. That is just a piece of plastic. That is a bit excessive — and I say that as a Sony (SNE) stockholder! Well I am not going to get that hood. I actually found a real NEAT one. It is called a ‘Hoodcap’ — hood and lens cap in one. IF it works this will be great because I am always fiddling around for my lens cap. NO, I can’t abide having the lens cap tethered to the camera. That annoys me. The ‘Hoodcap’ seems ingenious. Why didn’t I think of that. Just hope it works. It is only supposed to work on two Sony lenses and the 16 – 50mm I am getting is one of them.

In addition to the hoodcaps I have had other questions. The bundle talks about an HDMI-to-microHDMI cable. That comes with the camera. So I was confused as to why it is listed separately. Also wanted to know how many battery chargers I will get. Appears I will get two. That is good. Well the answers to these last questions came from Abraham Corona — via the Amazon “Ask a Question” feature. He has been EXTREMELY helpful.

On one of his answers he included a link to his Facebook page so I could see his work. I was impressed. I asked him if I can post a few of his images on this blog. He kindly agreed. So that is how you get to enjoy these pictures.

Abraham Corona.

Thank you.
