Pope Francis, Once Again Wearing Gold, With The Insane Riches Of The Vatican As A Backdrop, Condemns Wealth.

This irks me no end. Yes, the pope makes a pretense of trying to lead a simple life BUT he invariably surrounds himself with gold. There is nothing in the Bible that says he need gold to give him credibility.

And as for the Vatican’s insane wealth — or for that matter the opulence in which Church prelates continue to live.

I no longer think that Francis is a hypocrite when it come to this matter — i.e., telling us to abandon wealth while the Vatican and the prelates continue to accumulate and glorify.

No, I just think he is TOO STUPID to realize what he is saying and the hypocrisy involved!

Why Does The Robert Mueller Report Start Off With A TYPO?

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE. From the actual report. I kid you NOT.

28 CFR 600. Click image to access the OFFICIAL government document.

Click to ENLARGE. Actual CFR 28 para 600.8(c). It is ‘At’ …

This does NOT make ANY sense. This is the first real sentence in the Mueller report. What that “[a]t” denotes is that the original document, viz. 28 C.F.R. § 600.8(c) said “t” rather than “at“.  That seemed very strange to me. We are talking about an official U.S. government document that had to have been vetted and approved by many — quite a few of them extremely pedantic lawyers.

So, I went looking for the original. Well, you can see for yourself. It says “At” not just “t”. Also it includes “Special Counsel” at the end. The Mueller Report indicates that that too was missing n the original. So, what gives?

Yes, it is possible that 28 C.F.R. § 600.8(c) was updated AFTER the report came out and folks at the DOJ realized the typos. Unlikely.

Was it possible that Mueller was working with an OLD copy?

I haven’t heard anybody mention this, but it does NOT make sense to I.

Have A Thoughtful ‘Good Friday’ 2019; It Is Not A Day For Rejoicing.

by Anura Guruge

Click to access my 2016 post.

Easter, though Americans do not appreciate it, is an unique ‘yin-and-yangholiday — the only one of its kind in Christianity.

You have ‘Good Friday’ and ‘Easter Sunday’. In the U.S. ‘Good Friday’ isn’t even a Federal holiday — though, in reality, one could argue that in terms of Christianity is a very important Holy Day.

Though a bona fide holiday, it would be wrong to consider it a day to be happy. So, the greeting: ‘Have a Happy Good Friday‘ is wrong, even offensive. Good Friday is a day for contemplation. Easter Sunday is the day to be Merry.

So, I will just wish you a ‘Thoughtful Good Friday 2019’ and point out that it is indeed a holiday in the Guruge household — since I do not believe that one can ever have too many holidays.

“Good Friday” Is A Holiday …

by Anura Guruge

At least in the Guruge household in New Hampshire.

I work all holidays, whether it is Christmas or Thanksgiving, so holidays per se have little meaning to I — other than the gluttony and the presents.

But, NO HOMESCHOOLING! I am giving her a break to her intense delight.

Other than the U.S., in every country I have lived in, viz., Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), France & the U.K., Good Friday & Easter Monday have been holidays.

So, it is only fitting that I propagate the custom over to here.

Happy Easter.

BBC Shortwave Service Is No Longer Available In the U.S. (& Has Not Been Since 2001).

I had absolutely no idea that this was indeed the case — and, moreover, has been since July 2001. 18-years ago. WOW.

Another casualty of the Internet.

Yes, in from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s I had fancy (i.e., expensive) Sony SW receivers so I could listen to the BBC on SW — primarily to get cricket scores.

Yes, it is also true that once I could get cricket score on the Interweb (via. say ‘cricinfo‘) I lost interest in fiddling around with SW.

I just go myself a small radio from Amazon today so that I can EASILY listen to NPR during my walks. [I am off-crutches after 6-weeks and intend to do a fair amount of walking.] It had SW has a bonus. So, I was looking forward to listening to BBC on SW. Well, I guess that is not going to happen.

P.S., It was cheaper to get this $24 radio than messing around trying to get FM on my Google Pixel 2.

Sunday Deliveries By Amazon — WHY? Didn’t Ask For It. Just Straight Prime 2-Day.

by Anura Guruge

For the second Sunday in a row we had an Amazon delivery via USPS.

Never asked for Sunday, or even 1-day delivery.

Just ordered them ‘2-day’ Prime — given I am a Prime Member of longstanding.

Kind of funny. Shortly after I placed the orders it showed SUNDAY delivery. So, they are planning for it.

I am sure the USPS is not complaining. Spoke to the delivery person today. He seemed quite happy. He is getting paid.

But, why?

Doesn’t make sense.

And as a AMZN shareholder (also of longstanding) this bothers me, though, OF COURSE, I cannot complain about the ROI I have got from AMZN. Smile.

First The Indians Litter Space, Then Israel Litters The Moon!

by Anura Guruge

This from CNBC. Google for plenty more.

Yes, accidents happen.

But, it is a shame that we now have litter and debris on the Moon! Yes, on the Moon.

They are claiming that Mount Everest is now like a garbage dump. It would be a shame if we had debris all over the surface of the Moon.

Yes, of course, they didn’t want it to happen, but did they do adequate testing to really, really avoid a failure. I remember reading that their very first rocket burn failed due to a basic programming error. I, alas, did a lot of work with Israeli high tech companies during ‘’. I learnt that they are cavalier and rush the software. SMILE.

Well maybe it is time for the IAU to step in and start policing and regulating space shots — whether just orbital, to the Moon or Mars.
