Driftsun high pressure pump with Atoll iSUP Anura Guruge

I got a Driftsun High Pressure, High Volume Dual Inflate/Deflate Stage Bravo Electric Pump to go with my Atoll 11′ stand up paddle board (iSUP). The Driftsun seemed identical to the one that Atoll markets from their Website — but as I already mentioned I was placing my order through Amazon to avail myself to the great zero-interest financing I get from Amazon.

I have used the Atoll twice so far, bot with great success and each time I inflated it with the Driftsun. The Driftsun does come with a Halkey-Roberts (HR) high pressure air valve adapter — and that is the fitting that Atoll expects. Works fine so far. The Driftsun only goes up to 14.5psi but Atoll and others have claimed that that is fine and plenty. I, however, did not go that far up since it was just going to be I with all of my 158 pounds. So, I stopped at 13.5psi. Seems OK.

Getting up to 13.5psi only takes about 5 minutes. Yes, it gets loud. Towards the end I end up holding down the valve just to be on the safe side.

So far, so good. I am pleased.

Kudos To ‘Atoll’ For The Very Fine (Double-Boxed) Packaging Of Their Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Boards.

by Anura Guruge

I was very happy with how my 11′ Atoll Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board arrived in the mail today.

For a start it was DOUBLE-BOXED. Kudos. The outside box had a ding on it and I had vision of a punctured board. Nothing to worry about. The second box (the white one) was untouched. So, everything inside was pristine. I am so glad.

Very well packed. Everything in its place and easy to take out.

Everything as promised.

I was glad. Nothing worse that having to try and get missing parts.

So far, Atoll really has surpassed expectations. I hope to keep it that way.

Wish me luck.

My ‘Atoll’ 11′ Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board (iSUP) Surpassed Expectations.

by Anura Guruge

A short YouTube video
(with a thumb in the middle).

My 11′ Atoll Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board arrived today.

It was beautifully packaged. Work of art.

It has surpassed my expectations. Very well made. You can feel the quality.

Using a ‘Driftsun High Pressure, High Volume Dual Inflate/Deflate‘ pump I pumped it up to 13psi. It was plenty rigid then. Next time I will go higher.

It was stable. As you can see from the video it was WINDY and this was my first time up on a board in probably 3-years (and I had knee surgery 3-months ago). I still did OK.

I was impressed. I had fun. I think this board and I will become great companions.

Next week is going to be COLD and windy. But, I am sure I can find a day to take it out again. Hopefully it will not be as windy.

‘Atoll’, To Their Credit, Honors “Father’s Day” Special, Though I Bought Inflatable Paddle Board Through Amazon.

by Anura Guruge

On their Website: atollboards.com.

I saw the “Father’s Day” special offer on their Website. There was no mention whether I would get it if I ordered the board through Amazon.

I really wanted to order it from Amazon. I get 6-month, interest free financing and it is crazy not to avail oneself of that generous offer. So, I contacted Atoll.

To their credit they immediately told me that they will ship me the 8″ Flex Fin, free of any charges (including shipping), as soon as I provide them with my Amazon order number. I was impressed. It confirmed my belief that they were a CLASS ACT. Glad I went with them rather than iRocker.

I sent them the Amazon order number and WITHIN MINUTES they sent me an USPS tracking number for my fin! WOW. Was I delighted.

So, now you know. You still have time left.

I Ordered An ‘Atoll’ 11′, Army Green Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board (iSUP) (Opting Against iROCKER).

This is what I got.

The picture that SOLD I.

Once I came to the final conclusion that a 11′ rigid board was not going to be practical to lug around, it had to decide between the Atoll and iRocker.

Yes, I looked at others, but I soon came to the conclusion, after a TON of research, that these two, in my price range, were the only two contenders. Then, it was a question of deciding between the two and I had to do a LOT of reading between the lines when it came to ‘impartial’ reviews. From everything I can see the Atoll is a more studier board, on all counts, and when inflated to 15psi it is said to be real rigid. The above picture that I saw a number of time, including in a video, was the clincher. I want an inflatable that feels as rigid as can be and Atoll seems to be that.

It is also superlight. 19 pounds when inflated. My old board weighed over 50 pounds. So, this meets my needs real well.

Also like the fact that it comes with a Universal Fin Box which does not lock you into one proprietary band.

I was not taken in my iRocker’s two-barrel pump. I was going to get an electric pump anyway (and I did) and Atoll’s 2-way high-pressure hand pump got good reviews.

I was also more impressed with the (supposedly) very light paddle that came with the board.

Overall, the Atoll, per my diligent evaluation, was a better buy, more board (and better kit) for your buck.

So, I ordered one today, from Amazon.

I was told I had to get a geen. Now green is my favorite color so I can’t complain. But, the Atoll sand colored board looks real spiffy too.

I should have the board my this weekend.

Yes, over the coming weeks you will hear all about it. Promise.

Wish me luck.

I Have, Not Surprisingly, Ended Up With ‘ActiFace’ Watch Face On My Garmin ‘MARQ Expedition’.

ActiFace on my MARQ Expedition.

Garmin MARQ Expedition with Crystal Watch Face Anura Guruge

The ‘Crystal’ watch face on my MARQ.

I had been using ‘ActiFace‘ on my Garmin Fenix 5 & Fenix 5 Plus for exactly one-year before I upgraded to the MARQ Expedition.

I had got quite attached to ActiFace once I got it customized exactly the way I wanted it. I had stumbled upon ActiFace accidently. I had been a ‘GearMin‘ fan. But, I discovered that GearMin did not work flawlessly on the Fenix 5. It disabled the DOWN button. That wasn’t good. That is when I found Actiface.

I like digital watch faces. So, the Garmin default analog did not last long.

I tried the new Crystal face. I like it. Just prefer ActiFace more. Gives me much more data, with more color and graphics.

Are YOU Following With What Is Happening To The U.S. ‘Electoral College’?

by Anura Guruge

Given that there is only so much news I can follow and process in a day, I had not paid much notice to snippets that I had seen about the Electoral College over the last few months. I was also under the belief that the chances of the Electoral College system being changed was pretty remote — especially under Trump.

But, the story from Nevada galvanised my interest and I took the time to read it. WOW. Steady on.

Yes, it is a long way from becoming a reality and it is bound to face enough legal challenges to stop it from being applicable in 2020. But, this sure is a start.

This is an initiative, much to my surprise (and delight) pre-dates the 2016 Trump election. Here is the list, prior to Nevada.
