Netflix “A Fortunate Man” (2018) Movie — One Of The Most Powerful Movies I Have Seen In A Long Time. Sobering.

YouTube trailer
ALAS in Danish.
Netflix is DUBBED English.

Absorbing. Mesmerizing tale. I so wanted it to be ‘based on a true story‘ — BUT I do NOT think it is. Shame.

Danish, BUT on Netflix the dialogue is all IMMACULATE English. I did not even check to see if I could see any mismatch with lips because it did NOT come across as having been dubbed.

I also learnt (just now), when I looked it up on IMDb, that it has started off as a 4-episode mini-series. Netflix has to have spliced them together to create a 2 hour 47 minute movie.

Definitely worth watching. Only for MATURE audiences, NOT because of the brief nudity BUT because it is a deep, profound movie.

One of the best movies I have seen of late.

(Catholic) Cardinal Elector Demographics Snapshot — February 27, 2021.

by Anura Guruge

Today, Sudanese Cardinal Gabriel Zubeir Wako turned 80 & as such ceased to be an elector.

We are now down to 127-electors. Still 7 too many!

9-days from now, on March 8, 2021, Cardinal Napier will also turn 80. That will bring the number down to 126 — barring any deaths.

Then there is a hiatus till June before the next elector ages out.

I will keep you posted.

‘Rowen’, Our Newfoundland Puppy From Iowa, 89-Days Old — We Have Had Her For Exactly A Month.

by Anura Guruge

We picked her up, in West Point, Iowa, exactly a month ago. We drove 2,700-miles just to get her.

She is 89-days old, today. 1-day she of being 3-months.

She is a handful, BUT what a joy. A lot of fun. Plays with everything & anything. LOVES snow shovels. She attacks them while we try to shovel. Good job that we love her. We stand there till she is done. Takes 3-times as long to shovel. But, for obvious reasons, does not like my monster snow blower.

Dry Eyes, I Have Come To Appreciate, Should Not Be Overlooked.

by Anura Guruge

As l have chronicled here I had cataract surgery done on both my eyes — twice on my right eye — between November 2020 & mid-January 2021. I am pleased with the outcome. The surgeries were done at OCB, i.e., Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston, & I lucked out in getting assigned to the OUTSTANDING Dr. Theodor Sauer. Wow! What a doctor & a laudable human being. We was beyond great. Well 4-days prior to the surgeries & a month after each, I had to use medicated 3-in-1 eye drops (that I have already spoken about). Once those eye drops were done Dr. Sauer was insistent that I kept on using lubricated eye drops to keep my eyes from getting dry.

He was very adamant — in the nicest possible way. Explained that most folks, which included I, did not appreciate the significance & worth of keeping one’s eyes well lubricated — especially in the winter. He recommended these & gave me a some samples. Funnily enough a previous eye doctor had recommended the same brand.

I value my eyes. So, I will do whatever I am asked to do. So, I have been using drops, daily, for the last few weeks. They definitely make a difference. Easier on the eye.

Then today I got this e-mail newsletter basically stressing what Dr. Sauer had told me.

So, I wanted to share it with you. Take note. Don’t mess with your eyes.

Today’s INSIGHT: Did You Know That ‘Stew’ Was The Name For A Brothel (A Whorehouse)?

by Anura Guruge

I had no idea. I was confused the first time I heard it used in that context. Appears that in 12th Century England it WAS the word for a whorehouse. Routinely used.

I learnt this via the latest Amazon Audible book I am listening, viz. “A Mortal Bane”. See below. Kind of neat. I can see how this word could evolve over time.

Tiger Woods’ Much-Publicized Crash In A ‘Genesis GV80’ — Good Or Bad For ‘Genesis’?

by Anura Guruge

GV80 SUV driven by Tiger Woods vs smaller, sedan, the G70.

I have owned SUVs from both KIA & Hyundai. Over the last couple of years the occasional Genesis I have seen has always caught my eye.

Then a few months ago Genesis entered my life. I have to get a newer car than the 19-year Jaguar XJ8 that I drive. It has limited safety features & I am starting to worry about its reliability. So, for the long trips I do, I have started renting a car/SUV.

So, in Oct/Nov I started looking around for a car that would meet my needs. Though it broke my heart I ruled out another Jag. I do NOT trust their reliability — especially at the crazy prices they want for a fairly new one.

I toyed with a convertible BUT I also need, at a minimum, FWD — given the snow — & ideally, AWD. FWD/AWD convertibles are a rare commodity. Then, I compromised on a moonroof. Googled for “AWD moonroof” — &, of course, it could NOT be German. The KIA ‘Stinger’ kept on popping up. I heard good things about the Stinger. But, it got me thinking. Hyundai is the higher/more luxurious KIA. So, what did Hyundai have to offer. That is how I discovered the Genesis G70.

So, here is the irony. Just about the time Tiger Woods was involved in his accident, Teischan & I were at a Genesis dealing talking G70s. First time we had been to a Genesis dealership. Kind of uncanny. What a coincidence.
