November 28: 1946, 1957, 1963, 1968, 1974, 1985, 1991, 1996, 2002, 2013 & 2019.
Not that long ago. In 2013. 6-years ago.
You may remember it.
And also 2002.
November 22 is the EARLIEST the 4th Thursday can fall.
November 28 the LATEST.
U.S. Thanksgiving has NOT always been on
the 4th Thursday of November.
It used to be on the LAST Thursday of November.
You can have 5 Thursdays in November,
as was the case 2012 & back in 1939.
The 4th Thursday in November
was made a Federal Holiday in 1942.
So, Thanksgiving on the 4th Thursday
is but 77-years old.
Notice that the gap between Thanksgiving falling on the same day varies by 5-, 6- & 11-years.
That is the norm for such ‘on the same day’ gaps.
The 11-year gap, is atypical BUT part of the pattern — as is the case with when a given date falls on a particular day. The ’11’ having to do with leap years and the 7-days in a week. Other than the 11-year gap, which typically occurs every 4-years, the usual gap is either 5 or 6. You can clearly see that in the first image.
This image shows what I call the ‘ebb and flow’ of how the dates CYCLE through November 22 to November 28. Kind of mesmerizing — at least to I.
Last time Thanksgiving was on a Thursday — last year. SMILE.
