Garmin’s ‘Vivomove Luxe/3’ & Vivosmart 4 Now Get ‘Connected GPS’ — Provided You Have Your Smartphone Handy.

What I find here is that these watches did NOT have ‘Connected GPS’ from the get-go.

I have only ever bought Garmin, Fitbit or Amazfit watches with GPS so I have never required ‘Connected GPShttps://www.garmin.com/en-US/blog/fitness/connected-gps-now-on-vivosmart-4/‘.

I know that it has been available with Fitbit for a number of years. I have heard people talk about it. Thus, I had just assumed (incorrectly, of course) that Garmin must also have this capability by default.

The ‘Vivosmart’ is a $130 band. I can just about fathom why it doesn’t have GPS. For $40 more, you can get a ‘Vivosport‘, with GPS and a color display. That is what I got my wife.

The hybride ‘Vivomove’ with fixed hands and hidden color touchscreen is a $350 to $550 watch. You would think Garmin would offer GPS — maybe even as a $50 option. Guess not.

I love GPS on my watch. I use GPS, near daily, if I am doing a serious walk/run or hike. I do it to get (hopefully) a better distance measurement, i.e., GPS rather than accelerometer and gyroscope. Yes, GPS still leaves much to be desired, especially if you double back on yourself or walk in circles. But, I convince myself that the milage it shows is within +/- 5%. Yes, I have tested distnace with multiple watches (given that I have had at least 12 over the last 2-years) and vehicles.

Using the phone GPS is not the same. Yikes. I feel bad.

Garmin!

Very frustrating. And I am a Garmin shareholder to boot. Yikes.

Absolutely Astounded That Saudi Arabia Did NOT Have A Defense Against Drone Attacks.

by Anura Guruge

Click to access their impressive Web site. You SHOULD Google ‘drone defense systems’ for more.

I could not believe it when I heard about it. Saudi Arabia. Saudi! With all its wealth, influence and contacts. That vulnerable to a drone attack.

Can you see another Middle East country, much smaller, being vulnerable to a drone attack. Like hell.

This is crazy. I think — and I could be wrong — that they let this happen to PROVOKE a response … from you know who.

Yes, drones are smaller and more agile than conventional warplanes, but they are not as ‘robust’. They can be brought down easier — at least from what I have been told. If nothing else you should be able to jam — and jam tight — all the radio frequencies to make the drone helpless.

Well, this is outside my league. I just know that it sounds and feels very incongruous. There is more to this than us civilians will ever find out.

Just hoping that my heating oil prices will not double.

Pictures That Don’t Get Posted On This Blog — I.E., Stash Of My Extra Pictures.

by Anura Guruge

I take a lot of pictures.

We are not even at mid-month, and I have already taken 710 pictures in September and that is a LIGHT month. Over the last few years I take between 20,000 to 40,000 pictures a year. That is a fair number of pictures.

Though you may THINK you see a lot of pictures on this blog, you only are getting to see the tip of the iceberg. For every picture I publish, I probably have 30 that I don’t have time and room to publish.

Excess pictures is a major issue after events, e.g., last night’s UNH ‘Mid-Autumn Festival‘ or last week’s ‘Laconia Multicultural Festival‘. Time is an issue too. These days, severely strapped for time due to work on my latest book (on ‘conclaves’), I just don’t get around to posting as many pictures & posts as I should. And people expect and ask for pictures.

So, this morning I created this new site. I have had variations of it before, but never this organized. This is where I will DUMP excess pictures. I am not going to bother doing a post. Just create an image gallery and upload a bunch of photos.

So check it out on a regular basis. I will remind you.
