Samsung ‘Galaxy Active’ Smartwatch Blood Pressure Capability NOT Ready For Prime Time Nor My Wrist.
Basically it will be the same as that currently available with the Samsung S9(+) smartphones and this capability, on the phone, has not been a great hit.
There are 3 BIG negatives:
- You can’t (unlike say with heart rate) get a reading on the watch. A reading is ONLY available on the APP. So, it is a ‘connected’-feature. You need the phone, at hand, to see a reading.
- It CANNOT measure absolute values! It can only measure CHANGES from one reading to another. That is relatively useful BUT nowhere as good and relevant as getting an actual reading that says ‘117/70’. This is my biggest gripe.
Then they TRY to fake it. They want you to enter a baseline value taken with a proper cuff or what you last got when you saw your doctor. Then it uses that to correlate its first reading. That is GARBAGE. Blood pressure readings change from minute-to-minute. I know. I am somewhat of an expert on this matter.
So, taking the baseline as corresponding to the first reading it is taking is INVALID. The baseline & first reading could be +/- 20% out. Possibly even more.
So, the absolute readings the APP gives are meaningless. They could actually be DANGEROUS. They could be way too high or way too low.
- The APP is not from Samsung. It is from a 3rd party and the current version has not been great.
So, I am thinking of holding back on buying a Samsung Galaxy Active.
The BP feature is only going to be available as of March 15, 2019. I am going to see what the reviews are. OK?
I suggest you do the same.
