Sri Lankans Use Stock-Photo ‘White People’ In Their Ads — Very Incongruous, Strange & Sad.

This popped-up on my Facebook time and made me take notice.

I had seen similar before and had talked to a few Sri Lankans about it then.

This is disturbing!

The belief that using ‘white people’ makes the Ad. better. It is sad. It has been 70-years since Independence, but as one Sri Lankan told me today, colonial-mentality still persists.

There are good looking Sri Lankans as we saw just recently in this post

So, why they feel the need to use stock-photo, white people is laughable. The country is trying desperately to be an isolationist, Sinhala-Buddhist nation — BUT sees nothing strange about Ads. like this.

This is Sri Lanka; a contradiction wrapped up in an enigma.

No. No. It is NOT a hint. Promise.

It was her birthday last month and she has just got around to doing her ‘Thank You’ notes.

Hand drawn, free-hand. She could be into something here.

I will confess that she KNOWS that these are good. So she herself has started joking that she is going into business. As a quick search of this blog will show, she is quite the little artist.
