Commercial Supersonic Flight Came To An End This Day, 14-Years Ago, With The Last Flight Of The British Airways’ Concorde.
I never flew the Concorde. One of my many regrets in life. Not sure WHY I didn’t fly it. Between 1985 to 1999 I used to go back-and-forth across the ‘pond’ multiple times a year, typically at least 3 times a year. In 1985 and 1986, when I first came over, I would fly back ‘home’ for the weekend. I also had the money. I think I was always waiting for a better time.
Well, I will never get to fly the Concorde! My loss.
I have been inside the cabin — at least twice, maybe more. Once was at a Farnborough Air Show in the mid-1970s. The other, I think, was at Filton, where the British Concorde’s were built. I don’t want to swear to that, i.e., my visit to Filton, BUT I have fairly strong memory that I did. It might have been when I was at University in Swansea (i.e., a field trip) or it could have been an ‘open day’. Filton is close to Bristol, and my I spent a lot of time in Bristol, 1971 to 1983, in that my first wife was from there. But, I can’t be sure.
I miss the Concorde. I loved to hear the roar of it taking off at Heathrow. Aaaahhhh! A sad day for the world. 14-years ago. We seem to be going backward. We had supersonic air travel in the 1970s but not now. What gives?
I have spoken from THAT podium,
in front of that green granite that Trump detests.
I have (honest injun) stood at that famous podium, in the UN General Assembly Hall, in front of the green granite, and spoken. It was 1977 or 1978. I was in New York with IBM. My adoptive father’s cousin worked at the United Nations — in the library. These were the INNOCENT DAYS before security concerned ruined so much. I think I walked into the UN HQ building, to meet mu ‘cousin’, without encountering any security. He took me for a tour. The General Assembly Hall was empty. He just walked in. Told me to go up to the podium so that I can tell folks — years later (like now) — that I have stood on that podium. Those were the days, my friends … Life was so much simpler.
Whether you ‘like’ the UN or not, it has done a fair amount for the World and humanity.
It was set up 52-days after the END of WW II to prevent WW III. In that it has been successful — for now. That said we have had TOO MANY WARS in that period, and I do blame the UN to an extent.
Yes, it is NOT anywhere close to efficient as it should be and there is a lot of ‘mismanagement’ and downright corruption. But, that (in this case) goes very much with the territory.

What an AMAZING Fall this has been in Central New Hampshire. The most vivid color in a many a year and I did use the singular there since this was a Fall dominated by red, red & more reds — all glorious. All these pictures were taken on Sunday, October 22, 2017 within 2-miles of our our house. Some of them are Locke Lake in Barnstead. The others are off a private property that I now have access to in terms of taking pictures. The owners called me at 9am to tell me to get up there are take some pictures! That was very kind of them. I didn’t need to be asked twice. The rain we will have this week will, alas, knock down most of the foliage. So, this could be close to the last hurrah, but rest assured, I will keep on snapping away. Enjoy.
