Think – Today: Who Came Up With The Modern Fork?

by Anura Guruge

1024px-assorted_forksWe, in the west, typically use one on a daily basis. But, have you given IT, i.e., a fork, any thought. Obviously the Chinese opted for chopsticks rather than forks. So, when did the fork come to be and who invented it?

Think first, then research, then THINK again. Think for the pleasure of thinking.

Yesterday’s ‘Think’: “The word ‘think'” — It, surprisingly, is not from Latin or Greek! The Latin for ‘think’, cogitare gave us ‘cogitate‘ — a word that I am particularly fond of. The Greek equivalent is nomízo. “Think” is from the German denken.

2016 Chanukah (Hanukkah) Will Be On Christmas Eve — Only The 4th Time Since 1900.

Chanukah Hanukkah Christmas Eve 2016 Anura Guruge

The first night of Chanukah/Hanukkah falling on Christmas Eve, i.e., December 24, does NOT happen that often.

Between 1900 and 2016 it has happened on: 1902, 1940, 1978 & 2016.

So the last time was 38 years ago.

The next time will be 2027 — 11 years from now.

Next one after that will be on 2073.
