Think – Today: Where Does The Word ‘Think’ Come From?

by Anura Guruge

thinkthinkFunny ol’ thing! We rarely, if ever, think about ‘think’ itself. Where does this word come from?

Think first, then research, then THINK again. Think for the pleasure of thinking.

Yesterday’s ‘Think’: “Difference between a hill and a mountain” — 1,000′ appears to be the demarcation. You need to have a summit, and if the summit is above 1,000′ it is a mountain, if not, it is a hill. In the 1995 movie “The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain“, that I pointed out to you yesterday, the Welsh villagers set about raising the level of their hill above 1,000′. Cute.

Got My 2016 – 2017 Flu Shot, 0.5 FLUARIX QUAD AX At The Alton, N.H., Hannaford Pharmacy.

by Anura Guruge

flushot

This is the fifth year running I got my annual flu shot at our local, Alton Hannaford Pharmacy — this last Saturday, November 19, 2016.

It does not get any easier or more convenient. And now they tout and honor a ZERO co-pay. So, no cost other than what they bill your insurance.

Very efficient. Very professional. Quite fast. Very little wait time.

Yes, I know that they don’t even KNOW what this winter’s flu virus is going to be!

Same story as last year.

The vaccine, quite literally, is a shot in the dark. Best guess, hope for the best, fingers crossed.

But in my old age and with very little blood cells, red or white, I can’t take any chances.

In 2010, around Thanksgiving, I nearly died — a doctor at Dartmouth Hitchcock going to great lengths to see if he could make it happen. Since then I have been getting a flu shot, every year, in November.

‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ (3D) — Spectacular, But I Could “Take It, Or Leave It”.

Click to access “imdb.com” listing for this movie.

No denying that it is indeed quite spectacular. Some of the beasts and sequences really are fantastic and engrossing. Very clever, very dramatic. Kind of over the top. But, cute and some really touching bits.

Not really my cup of tea. I was never a big “Harry Potter” fan. So I was not their target audience. The girls loved it.

The 3D was STRANGE! Oh! Some very impressive, in-your-face effects. But, other than center, foreground everything else was out-of-focus and blurred. We all noticed and commented on this. Now this could have been the equipment at the cinema we went to, viz. “Regal Concord 10“, in Concord, N.H. We have had issues with their 3D in the past — and once even got a full refund from the manager.

Lavish, no expenses spared production. Amazing sets, amazing scenes.

If you like this genre of entertainment, this has to be up there — top drawer. You might want to think hard about the 3D. It might be BETTER without 3D!

P.S., Loved the Platypus. BEST part of the movie. Best character. I want one.
