So what would YOU be willing to pay for these delectable cakes?

The bottom one is US $24.10 including delivering in and around Colombo.

The top one, with the exquisite daffodils, is US $17.15.

Ah! For Sri Lankan prices.

I have, over the years, sent at least 20 Kapruka cakes to relatives in Sri Lanka. They were always a hit — even in a family known over the years for their cake baking and decorating prowess.

I wish I could have Kapruka cakes in the U.S. I understand the prices would have to be different. But, I would pay $75 for either of these cakes — though, of course, I would NOT touch a piece.

That they now celebrate Mother’s Day in Sri Lanka makes me smile. It is a new holiday. We never had it when we were growing up. It is all the Sri Lankans living in the West — wanting to pay homage to their mothers in Sri Lanka. It is cute. My mother, adoptive at that, has been gone since 1992. I get a feeling that mothers in Sri Lanka get treated on various Mother’s Day depending on where their offspring reside. So if a mother has kids in both U.K. and the U.S. she will get to celebrate two separate Mother’s Days; March 15 & May 10 (this year).

I saw her (for the very first time) on Thursday night, on SkyTV, ebulliently acknowledging (and celebrating) her momentous victory. How could you NOT be glad for her? She was this one big toothy smile of a face. I was happy for her. I was happy for the U.K. It is wonderful that we can elect somebody so young (and also so raw). I applaud the Scots for their courage and conviction in electing her.

I was NOT sure how she stacked up in terms of age. I wasn’t sure whether we had had 18 year old MPs. Now, thanks as ever to the peerless U.K. “Daily Mail“, I know. Youngest since 1667.

Her vocabulary bothers me somewhat. Yes, until I was 23, and did so overnight, cold-turkey, I used to swear — every other word that came out of my mouth was a swear word and some of them were quite graphic. So she is 20. She is entitled, BUT I hope she tones it down. I have a 26-year old daughter and a 23 year old son. They probably having seen that I don’t even use the (to me dreaded and disgusting) ‘s-word’ don’t swear much. I never talked to them about it. They just don’t.

The red Sturgeon.

I also hope she rethinks her dress code. She, from what I could see, wore a man’s gray suit. Confused the heck out of me. Maybe she was trying make a statement (and yes, I can read something into that), but I think she will look better if she dressed a tad more femininely. From what I can see her ‘boss’, the head of the SNP, Nicola Sturgeon (and that name conjures up caviar for me), dresses very snazzily in bright female attire.

I have since read that her dad is a retired teacher and was very instrumental in her very successful campaign. Maybe he will, like us dads do, start having some quiet words with her.

But, I am happy. Way to go. I would be proud to have her as my daughter.

And in case you were wondering, ‘Mhairi‘ is Gaelic for Mary, i.e., much loved and longed for child.

I made the double-sided card using VistaPrint. I looked around and in the end they offered the BEST combination of design flexibility, design ease and price. VistaPrint, after you spend a few minutes exploring them, are not just easy to use but also a delight.

Until I started paying them I had NO idea, until I saw the N.V. after their name, that they were a Dutch, i.e., Netherland’s, company. I have no problems with that. I am very fond of Holland and the Dutch and have spent a LOT of quality time in the Netherlands. It is just that they come across as a quintessential American company. Good for them. Bravo.

All the images are mine. I basically used their free-form, use your own images and design, tool.

The snowy scene, as some of you would recognize, is lovely Wolfeboro, N.H., from the Lake (with me doing my walking on water (WOW) routine), taken this February.

The cliffy ocean scene, that goes with the waves breaking picture I use as the cover in “Orgasms: 101 Facts & Trivia“, were both taken by me, last September, when we again visited the incomparable Acadia National Park in Maine.

Let me know if you want some of these business cards.

Yes, I guess if I am really honest (and I tend to be that 99.96% of the time) I must have always had a hankering for a business card that had the word ‘orgasm’ on it.

I had some, at MacDurgin, that said “Chief Bottle Washer”. But I think I like these new ones better. If nothing else they are colorful.

As I said yesterday, ahead of the election, I, though now known for my strong democrat leanings (in the U.S.), have never had any qualms about David Cameron. David Cameron is no Shrub, McCain, Mittens or Cruz. He comes across as very balanced, erudite, sane and human. I actually like. I hadn’t paid too much attention to what is platform was BUT now I am hearing that he might be bad news to the U.K. National Health System (NHS) and the still ‘cheap’ (if not ‘free’ as it was in my days) College system. It would appear the conservatives, in order to cut costs, favor a U.S.-like commercialized health and higher education system. That would be a mistake. But they plan to hold a referendum to see if the U.K. should get the hell out of the European Union. As I also said yesterday, I was one of the 2% that voted ‘NO’ in the 1975 ‘should we join the European Union’referendum. So another referendum on this thorny subject would please me. I think we will be better off out of the Union.

On the other hand I do NOT want to see another Scottish independence referendum. Last year’s one took 10 years from my already severely curtailed lifespan. As such the near clean sweep that the SNP enjoyed in Scotland scares and worries me. I want MY Great Britain to continue to be GREAT.

I am glad we did not end up with a hung parliament. Our parliament is great too and I like it working the way it should — the oldest parliament in the known Universe.
