All taken (from a set of 72) on Saturday, November 15, 2016
between 10 and 11 am
(while Teischan was at a ballet class).

It was cold but a brilliantly beautiful day.
It was great to be able to just
perambulate around lovely Wolfeboro
cutting in and out from the
Cotton Valley Trail
— that I walk so often.

All taken, handheld, with my refurbished Canon T3i.

Yes, from a superficial standpoint they are both countries where the majority religion is Buddhism, but the similarity ends there, with a BIG thump.

Nearly 50% of South Koreans do not subscribe to a religion! 50%. It is a very secular country.

So the Buddhists only make up around 23%. In marked contrast Sri Lanka is 70% Buddhist — with about 25% of this segment, of late, having become extremely extremist and radical.

No harm will come to the Pope. If nothing else the 30 year, extremely bloody civil war taught the security forces as to how to very effectively protect VIPs. So the Pope will be well looked after.

But poor people on the streets will not be so lucky. There is already rampant animosity with rebel rousers already having a field day — among other things demanding that the pope apologize for all the sins committed in centuries past by the Catholics. The crazy things is that this unpredictable pope might very well do that! There will, trust me, be hell to pay if he does that. It would be an admission of guilt and they will milk that for all that they can and bit more.

The pope’s visit does not sit well with me. I just have a feeling that it will incite a lot of unnecessary unrest revolving around religious differences. Things are rather ‘delicate’, to say it mildly, at the moment and this visit will be the equivalent of throwing a lit firecracker at a raging bull while at the same time taunting it with a red flag. Lets hope I am wrong.

The Pope Francis’ trip to Sri Lanka is ON.

There is going to be an interreligious meeting on the 1st day itself.
That could prove to be interesting.
The Buddhists are again demanding an apology from the pope.

gallefacegreen

Galle Face Green. I used to go there, late evening, to see the Sun set into the ocean, two or three times a week when I lived in Ceylon. That was the thing to do. The yellowish building with the red roof is the famous, historic Galle Face Hotel. Used to go there often too — mainly for wedding. Amusing real story involving Mick Jagger. Sometime in the 1970s Mick was travelling through Sri Lanka on a private trip, i.e., without the band. He had a reservation at the Galle Face Hotel. He turned up. But in those days, like with so many ‘posh’ Asian hotels they had a rule about long hair. Mick had to get his hair cut in order to get his room key. Kid you not. Check it out. Mick pulls out a cheque book (him being British and dealing in real cheques as opposed to fake checks) and says how much to buy this dump? They gave him a room key. It would have been cool IF he had bought it.

Well at least thanks to Deanna, I know how not to lose them. A plastic earring backing is exactly what the doctor ordered.

Thanks Kenny. That was very kind of YOU. I owe you.

Devanee wanted one. I was GLAD to give her one. The more folks who will wear ‘Red Poppies’ ahead of ‘Remembrance Day‘ the happier I am.

novembercelebrate2014Don’t get me wrong. They will have cases, albeit ONLY in selected N.H. Liquor Stores on Thursday, November 20 (and Farmington, as I have found to my cost, will NOT be one of them). It is just that they have always managed to find clever ways to totally ignore Beaujolais Nouveau Day in terms celebrating it. For us Europeans, especially semi-cultured, relatively well-heeled Brits, Beaujolais Nouveau Day is an important holiday — up there close to Easter!

I happened, on my weekly visit to a N.H. Liquor Store to replenish my supply of red wine, to pick the complimentary “Celebrate NH” magazine, for November 2014, produced by the N.H. Liquor Stores. I expected to see something about the upcoming Beaujolais Nouveau Day. Nothing! Nada! They even have a section, in this issue on page 54, of local events. Not one mention of Beaujolais Nouveau.

I then visited the N.H. Liquor Store Website. Nothing. Nada. They have a whole section on Events. I combed through that. They have NUMEROUS wine tastings on Thursday, November 20, 2014 in Concord, Manchester, Hooksett, Center Harbor, Conway, Meredith etc. etc.

Not one of them mentions Beaujolais Nouveau Day.

How provincial? How country bumpkinish? Makes us look uncultured and ignorant. Shame on our Liquor barons. Yes, I know that it is a cheap, inconsequential wine and that there isn’t much margin per bottle. But it is an EVENT, an events celebrated in Europe, Down Under and even Japan. Plus they sell it. Don’t get it. I also heard from Georges Duboeuf that they are precluded from being able to ship preview bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau to New Hampshire. They could ship me a bottle to a Maine or Massachusetts address, but not one in New Hampshire. I am just going to go out and buy a bottle and half as I normally do on Thursday.
