This was in the same news coverage about the pope admitting to stealing a cross from a coffin.

The pope says he was STUNNED that
NO ONE had brought flowers to the funeral.

But, here is the funny and crazy part.

He hadn’t brought any flowers either!

But, he is stunned that others hadn’t.

Maybe it was the years of doing on my feet public seminars, but I would never (I think) make a statement like this which looks strange!

This pope puzzles me. A Catholic priest agreed with me earlier today. You just would think that he would realize what he is going on about.

Very strange.

>> Comment by Crystal A. Carroll, Manager, Community Relations, Northeast Delta Dental <<

In my March 5 post what I was mainly trying to point out was that healtcare.gov provided dental in New Hampshire, via Delta Dental, is dominated by ‘Aspen Dental’.

I commented on why I am leary of ‘Aspen‘. Aspen scares me.

Anyway, based on the nice comment from Delta’s Community Relations manager, I just wanted to show what I mean. I did, using Delta Dental’s FIND DENTIST feature a search on PPO providers around Alton. Preponderance of Aspen. Note that the first result I got, the one in Alton, is PEDIATRIC only. That is no good for me, even if I go there on my knees pretending to be a kid!

I am going to TRY the lady dentist in Pittsfield — though I do not associate Pittsfield with good teeth!

I like this Pope, he is a definite four orders of magnitude improvement on the previous one. Plus, I identified him correctly as a papabile way back, in print, in 2010. But he says the darndest things. It is as if he thrives on being provocative and getting media attention.

To admit to stealing is quite a thing. Even I, despite being a heathen, know that the Ten Commandments has a prohibition against stealing.

ten-commandments
Jesus-weptSo I am befuddled as to why this Pope would BOAST about stealing — moreover, stealing from a dead priest’s casket? Is there nothing sacred in the Catholic world? Will we hear from his next week that he went around unearthing coffins at night to plunder their contents?

Yes, as a papal historian, I fully appreciate that in the overall scheme of the manifold sins perpetrated by popes, during, before and after their papacies, that stealing from a coffin only warrants but ‘1’ on a scale of ‘1-to-10’. But, nonetheless it is disturbing and I don’t know about YOU, but this does NOT enhance my respect for the pope. IF he thought that this revelation will make him come across as even more SPECIAL, he was mistaken — BIG TIME.

I feel bad for Catholics. They have enough to contend with the ongoing, near-ending clergy sex crime saga. They don’t need a pope, a popular one at that, admitting to robbing caskets.

You would think that God would put a 4 second time-delay on this pope’s utterings so he can BLEEP out some of the damaging drivel he appears unable to contain.

I do, however, have some context and perspective for this papal confession. In my recent ‘Pope John XXIII: 101 Facts & Triviabook I talk about how on Boxing Day 1958 Pope John XXIII (#262) admitted to a group of prisoners in Rome, while making a visit to the prison, that one of his brothers had been caught and incarcerated for poaching. Rome was scandalized that a pope would say such a thing. The Vatican semi-official newspaper, the L’Osservatore Romano refused to print his comments. Now this pope’s confession, about himself rather than a relative, is all over world news.
