Do YOU Know YOUR Planes? Fun Airliner Identification Quiz.
…by Anura Guruge
Airplanes is yet another of my very long list of interests, albeit one fairly high up on that list. I was going to be an aeronautical engineer before I was told, in 1969, that there were this new fangled things called ‘computers‘ that were the wave of the future. Plus, I have spent a fair amount of my life on planes. During 1985 & 1986, I must have spent 35% of my life on planes since I was in the top 2% of frequent fliers on both American and United. During 1992 to 1999, I must have spent 20% of my life on planes. I used to know my planes real, real well. These days, at most, we fly once a year. But, I still look up in the sky, like a little boy, when I hear a plane.
So when I saw this quiz I wasn’t sure how well I would do. I was amazed. I got 90%; just one wrong in the 10 I was asked to identify. I call that residual knowledge, stuff that your brain absorbs and holds on in the hope that it might someday be useful.
If you like planes or spend a lot of time in them try the quiz. It is fun. Also lets you appreciate how similar Boeing and Airbus designs are; now acknowledged as proof of how form always has to follow function.
