I don’t know Mr. Fraser. Wish I did. This was the first I have ever heard of him.

I enjoyed reading this letter. Beautifully written. It did not, once, make me do a double take and end up scratching my head going aaahhhh. He is obviously well educated and rational and that comes across loud and clear. How I wish he was on the current Board.

I gather we will have a School Board vacancy next week. I would like to see Mr. Fraser considered as the temporary stand-in — in much the same way that they did with Mr. Hussey vis-à-vis the Alton Selectmen (& Lady). [See page 1 of the above referenced paper]. If Mr. Fraser is unavailable, it should be Mrs. Tilley, given as far as my decrepit memory serves me, she came in second (or was it third) in the last election relative to the Board. I think she will do good on the Board. I could, as ever be wrong (fallibility my faithful handmaiden), but I think that she actually has a bona fide 4 year College degree. What a concept.

Thank YOU, Mr. Fraser. You made my day and mitigated, somewhat, the great distress I feel at the loss of Mrs. & Mr. Jane

WMUR’s forecast for Alton for the nights in question, i.e., Friday and Saturday. Click to access.

It doesn’t look that promising for us in New Hampshire this Friday & Saturday night, i.e., May 23 & 24, 2014, BUT I have not given up on it yet.

For a start, with a bit of luck, there should still be some activity Sunday night — and Sunday night looks fairly decent (per WMUR).

This meteor shower, unlike some others, has a point of origin, i.e., the Camelopardalids constellation after which it is named, directly above us — close to the North Star. I often notice that around midnight we can get breaks in the clouds, especially those high up at the top. So we might still have some breaks.

Midnight to 2 am are thought to be the peak hours for us — but the meteors that make up these showers don’t work per clockwork. So there will activity right through the night. Midnight to 2am is perfect for me given that 2 am is typically when I go to sleep — getting to bed about 1:30 am and then reading till I am ready to sleep.

So I plan to go out and have a look around midnight and 1 am. If it looks good I will wake up the kids.

I hope the weather will cooperate. Enjoy.

My February 23, 2014 posts. Yes, I was off by a few towns BUT I was right in that they were leaving Alton. So that was 3 months ago. I kept it vague on the blog, though it got talked about much outside, so as not to compromise Mr. Cormier.

JaneCormier1aWe as a family owe an enormous debt of gratitude to Jane Cormier. For that we will always be grateful. The day that Cormier won her Primary was one of the happiest days (maybe ‘THE’ happiest day) in our life since we moved to Alton in 2007. The kids danced and froliked in yard, with sparklers — they were that happy and relieved. I cracked a bottle of champagne. So we will always remember Cormier for making our oft beleaguered life in Alton somewhat more bearable.

I have always enjoyed watching Cormier in action and I applaud her for SOME of her efforts to keep my property tax bill somewhat under control. With both Cormiers, and I hope you all know that the esteemed Alton Central School (ACS) Board member, Carlos Martinez is in reality Mr. Cormier, I always used to be glad, given their abhorrence of any form of taxation, that I wasn’t back in the U.K. or India because I would be paying an entertainment tax to watch them in action.

The WMUR report above says that Mr. Cormier is also moving to Hooksett.

Does that mean that he will NO LONGER be on the ACS Board! Heaven forbid.

First Leggett (and as with the Cormiers I was the first to give you a heads up on that — but in that case much more explicitly) and now the Cormiers. What will happen to Common Core in Alton? Plus they were always the best dressed couple in Alton. What a loss.

I am not sure whether there is indeed a rigorous residency requirement to be on the ACS Board — or whether it is actually enforced. I have heard mutterings that we probably already may have an exception. If that is the case I really hope that Mr. Cormier, despite the commute, will deem to stay on the Board. Distance will not be a factor in getting Jane teleconferenced in so she can influence the vote.

Another sad day for Alton.

I knew this would happen when ‘they’ painted the Alton semaphores BLACK. It was an omen.

Well, I guess, I have no choice but to congratulate the Cormiers, thank them for all they have done for us and wish them well.
